tms would inform me of changes he needed done, and report things that were unwanted. It was fairly short but almost daily as a lot of drama does seem to pop up during.Ahhhh, okay, that makes a lot more sense. I was making the false assumption that he was just temporarily made a moderator of that sub-forum.
What kind of changes did he mostly request (aside from the usual reporting functionality)? Was it mostly just sticky/unsticky threads, or was there more to it?

Spoiler:
Well hell, that's much sexier than my "make a thread for every battle". I don't know if Jake would be okay with this though, last time he wanted to make sure everyone knew it was a community made project rather than a fakku sponsored game. To be honest, I'm more than okay with just a subforum and me making all the threads, would be much less work on the admin's parts as well.
I'd run it by him before I implemented it. It'll still be based on the forum software -- you'll still have a subforum with all the battle threads and stuff, just an extra landing page which is all pretty. And all of the more menial tasks would be automated, so it would be less work on your end.
Having such a system would only be more work on my part, and the cost of me implementing it once (and using it for both the Gar battles and MoteMote) is much less than having you guys do it by hand twice a year.
I strictly don't deal with politics; I don't know what the implications of having it be a Fakku-sponsored game would be. I'm not entirely clear on whether having a dedicated system to handle some of it makes it more Fakku-sponsored than having a subforum specifically set up for it.

how could you go about leaving it in the hands of non staff, from the looks of it it would require some sort of control and that's not something you can consider without jake's okay.Err, I always run every public-facing change I make through Jacob before doing it (aside from bugfixes). There's no harm in discussing a potential new system, then pitching it to Jacob to see how he feels about me implementing it. He's responsible for bouncing those ideas off the staff (and community at large). I by no means want to seem like I'm undercutting you guys.
For the sake of discussion, how was moderation for the previous Gar battle handled?
Anyway, instead of having the normal forum view, I did a rough mockup of what we can have instead --

EDIT: fuck you too, Imgur >:(
The goal here is to have the server do as much as possible so you guys can take control of the actual moderation (instead of maintaining stickies and everything else). Basically, you've got the current battle displayed on top with the vote buttons, then the bottom half of the page is divided into two columns -- the left is the most recent posts for the current battle's thread (and a quickreply box). The right is a list of the upcoming battles for the next week or so (whatever fits on the page).
Some points --
* We'll be able to just pre-load the system with a set of character name+images; we can have it autogenerate from there :
+ The bracket.
+ The bracket images (or however we lay that out) as the game progresses.
+ All of the battle threads.
+ The battle schedule.
* I kind of want to highlight posts in the battle threads based on how the person voted on that battle (though I imagine it'll be pretty clear). Maybe just on the front page.
* All of the threads are handled by the normal forum software -- the only thing that I think would be beneficial to change is the actual landing page (instead of a raw forum view) and automating some of the tasks.
Thoughts, comments, criticisms? How can we make this as streamlined as possible for both you guys and the users?

Okay gentlemen, quit your trolling -- this isn't IB. There's no reason we can't all work together on this.

Preferably a college student who is home over winter break with nothing to doEDIT: This part is much more hostile than I meant it to be, whoops.
It would be much longer than over winter break, and I don't think you realise how much work it actually is. When I first created the game, I thought it would be easy. But no, it's actually one of the most time consuming things I've ever done. That said, I would be up to return to creating it, being as I am basically done with school until next fall.
Ah, sorry about that. Had no idea about the history of it -- it sounded like a fuckton of work (moderation is a nightmare to begin with -- and maintaining special threads and all kinds of stuff on top only frustrates the problem). Didn't realize I was hitting a weak spot with my sarcasm :(
That aside, Jacob wants to wait until we're sure the servers are 100% (one of them fucked up over the weekend -- firewall state table filled up and brought the machine down). I think I've got all the kinks worked out, but want to wait another week just to make sure nothing critical is going to break while we have an event going on. Kind of hard to predict what might fail in a live, high-traffic environment, unfortunately :(

Again, I may create the game again if there is enough community want for it. Perhaps a poll? I can't speak for him, but I'm pretty sure Jacob won't have a problem with that. How did it work before? Was it you + global moderators, you + small team, or just you? If the last, it might be prudent to spread the load across a couple other people so you don't get bogged down to the point where it's not enjoyable for you.
Anyway, I don't make decisions -- I'm just the grease on the wheels -- but my appreciation for the hard work you guys do is beyond measure, and I want to make sure you guys have both the tools you need and the good times you deserve.
EDIT:
Also, I don't know if a plain forum is necessarily the best medium to host these events. I'm not very familiar with the format, but if design (e.g., MS Paint me some images) the interfaces for what you'd like the area to look like, I can implement it.

Can you post the image which causes the issue on sadpanda/imgur/dropbox so I can try reproducing the error? Nothing comes to mind that would cause it to fail given your description.

What's garfest? It's basically an event like MoteMote where we choose a bunch of GAR characters and spend a couple weeks internet screaming about how GAR they are and then vote on them in a single-elimination bracket until we've decided on a single most GAR character.
More or less a good excuse to post an avalanche of GAR porn.
I mentioned it to Jacob and he made some good points; assuming nothing goes terribly wrong we'll have it up in a week or so or something (want to make sure we get all the kinks worked out of the new TWINCEST server setup before starting anything important).

I don't think that is successfully trolling Sisami, how on earth did you come to that conclusion? Do you even understand what trolling is? Trolling is not posting Cool Story Bro image macros. Just so you know.
I do know what trolling is, that is why I'm saying you're a sucky troll.
Even if you are trying to act like you totally weren't trying to troll.
Explain how I was trolling. Also; explain what trolling is.
Trolling is the act of posting something purely designed to garner negative attention towards them.
This thread's title and primary post is the very definition of trolling.
But it's really very pathetic trolling.
Have a nice day newfag.
Trolling is the act of throwing people into a fit of rage through lies and deceit (rage is a variable, now it may be considered putting people through more than regular effort in order to respond to you). Trolling is not posting your opinion or sentiments. Trolling is also full of people who have no idea what trolling is.
What you have defined is an attention whore. Trolls troll for entertainment, not for the feeling of attention. Trolling is a strategic and well thought out process, it must have structure from the get go. A failed troll is when the person(s) being trolled realizes that he/she/they are being trolled, calls the troll on it and ends the discussion.
Trolling is like throwing two starving wolves a bone and watching them tear each other to shreds over it. It is not posting your sentiments or opinions. Like I have down. It is not attention whoring and it is not what you have defined. Clearly you are inexperienced in this matter and should stop now before you make an ass of yourself further.
Editing...
No, trolling is any act where someone sole purpose is to generate negative attention.
I didn't say there weren't different levels of trolling. And that some people are better than others.
You don't have to be all lying and deceitful. Puppeteering people around.
However, that doesn't mean you are a good troll. Hence why I called you a piss poor troll. Because you suck balls at it.
Attention whores tend to be piss poor trolls who do whatever they can to get attention on themselves. They are of the mindset "Any attention is good attention."
So again, have a nice day retard.
Man I'm loving this negative attention.
I'm loving these H A M B U R G E R S.

No, it's a war of attrition.
IT'S LIKE SEX -- NOT ABOUT HOW GOOD YOU ARE OR HOW FAST YOUR TONGUE IS -- BUT RATHER HOW LONG YOU CAN LAST.
I think we'd just give whoever's in charge of organizing it mod powers in the Garfest forum. They could then sticky whatever threads needed to be made and stuff. Preferably a college student who is home over winter break with nothing to do.
Looks like Jacob's asleep right now, so it'll have to wait until later tonight at the earliest.
DULY NOTED SIR
Anyway I don't make decisions I just break stuff. When Jacob wakes up he'll figure out who should be in charge and we'll set everything up and stuff.

EDIT: GOD I HAVE BEEN POSTING IN IB TOO MUCH I AM SORRY. It's just making the forum, right?
The only thing that would need to be done on the server end is to create a "Garfest 2010" forum and assign the appropriate moderator rights, correct? If so, I'll run it by Jacob.
I kind of think it would be interesting to have a separate dedicated interface for it (rather than just using the forum software to handle it), but don't have the time to design+implement one ;_;
