Just going to point out a couple of styles used in bass

I suggest a Pop/slap style of playing is the best for getting that funky sound

If you're playing in a band I suggest playing bass like rhythm guitar, you're gonna bring the beat if you wanna play funk

Or you could play it lead bass if your band's genre is rock


Learning to play the scales can help you out when trying to create a riff, just remember if you're unsure just play it high and low.
Obviously I left out root bass, but I am definitely sure you know that already.
