Well new topic. I would like to point out when too many threads become merged, the thread starts to glitch.Haha, I know, I was the one doing the merging :D
Was playing around with the mod tools and it turns out they're pretty fucking glitchy. Fixing them (and writing an admin interface) is on my list of things to do now ffs :|
Also there are now sort/ordering options on the forum search (which is the searchbox on the top-left of the main forum page). The pagination on there is still completely fucked (not sure why it's broken) and it needs a couple more features (limit search to specific forums, etc), but it's a step in the right direction.
And maybe just maybe we'll have the image section back up for Christmas. No promises ;_;
I'm on a hotel connection right now (lol traveling~) and it times out while trying to upload at 2KB/s. I'll give it a whack when I have a real connection later this week.

yeah samething here. i can see everything fine but the only problem is when viewing manga. like the fakku page will just say loading while the browser is done loading before the site crashed everything worked fine. hopefully it's fixed soonAh, yeah, the PS3 POS browser probably doesn't support javascript. I'll hijack in a redirect to point that user-agent back at some fallback code, gimmeh a sec.

Well, to be fair it wouldn't actually get rid of the hardest part; that is, creating the header images for each battle. That was what took the longest, and under this system I'd still have to do it. I like the idea, but I'm just being realistic. It wouldn't be possible to automate a system that could take 2 random images, center them perfectly to the way that looks good and create with no manual interaction.I have a couple of ideas, but auto-gen'd art is never going to look as good as hand-created stuff, unfortunately. That's just overhead that I think we're gonna have to sit with for awhile -- it would take more than a week to write a system which takes two pools of images, finds ones that have similar/contrasting color palettes and outline schemes, finds the rough centershs of the depicted characters and works them together.
THAT WOULD BE A COOL SIDEPROJECT THOUGH.

On the mod topic; the only problem I could see arising by having someone other than the main creator/do-er of the game is a problem that came up last year; when something needed done but no mods were around.Hrm, other than putting up the polls and maintaining the stickies, what other time-critical tasks were there? I'm not familiar enough with the game :<

RSS feed.Oh shit, that's a good idea.
EDIT: Anyway, I think I'm gonna call it a night. I'm gonna brew on all this and run it by Jacob tomorrow to see what he thinks about it. In any case, we have to wait a week before doing anything to make sure the servers aren't going to keep pooping themselves while we're running an event (because that would be shitty, pun intended).

Well, I can't fix the moderation bits (post deletions and rule enforcement), but I can definitely automate the sticky/unsticky process so that it automatically makes the daily battle threads, sticky/unstickys them, keeps track of the developing bracket and updates a central status post, generates bracket images, etc. I don't know what proportion of the overhead that would eliminate for you guys, but it would at least remove the "oh god need to stay up to put the thread up at the right time" factor.The fancy landing page is really just icing on the cake. The real timesaver is the automated system which takes care of the bruntwork for you guys.
Yeah that sounds like a lot of work eliminated as well as the problem of last year when people would complain or wonder if TMS was dead since there were no updates. With this automation, no one would care if he was dead.
Well, I think he'd still be necessary for keeping the discussion and stuff in-track. The moderators have enough work as-is reading through and policing all the other forums. That aside, I think the report system is enough to manage the post-related issues.

tms would inform me of changes he needed done, and report things that were unwanted. It was fairly short but almost daily as a lot of drama does seem to pop up during.Ahhhh, okay, that makes a lot more sense. I was making the false assumption that he was just temporarily made a moderator of that sub-forum.
What kind of changes did he mostly request (aside from the usual reporting functionality)? Was it mostly just sticky/unsticky threads, or was there more to it?
Sticky this, unsticky that, delete this post, tell them to stay on topic, tell them to abide by rules was basically what he did.

yeah, that was proposed to jake the second time TMS wanted to run it but he wasn't a fan of the idea, I don't think a moderator for a month and a half is really required. Not that it changes much but I just dont see that being a viable option.I think the main reason to have a dedicated moderator would be the whole "maintain this forum as something other than a forum" issue. An automated system would fix that need, I think. There are still the usual forum moderation tasks (deleting bad posts, keeping everyone in line, etc), but I feel like the reporting system can be used to take care of that.
