Not sure if this goes in random so here we go (feel free to move or delete)
Alright so today in my AP art class something happened that kind of bothered me. It was near the end of the class and we were all kind of sitting there (it was after a presentation). This kid (who's a giant fag) then starts talking to the class about how he found this weird/hilarious japanese video online. He didn't know what it was or anything so then he brought it up on youtube and showed the class. It was that Hatsune Miku concert that had all those 3d effects and craziness to it (of course I knew what it was but didn't say anything). Pretty much after the first 30seconds of it everyone had the "what the fuck this is so creepy look on there face" followed with laughing and what not. Such comments such as "I really HATE this" and "this is so disgusting" were thrown out. ... Moral of the story is "normal" people were shown weeb stuff and were freaked the hell out... Of course this is expected so I guess it didn't really surprise me. Yet this is the first time I've ever really seen this reaction and it kind of annoys me. Maybe just the fact the people (some, not all) can be so fucking narrow-minded. Hell even the teacher joined in and started making fun of it. Also I've never really got into the whole vocaloid/miku fandom thing so I'll save my judgment on it for later. Basically how do you(fellow people of FAKKU) feel about this reaction. Does it bother any of you? I mean I guess it's somewhat typical but it kind of annoys me even so. Also since its art class and I draw anime, everyone is gonna be in for a surprise when I bring in my art.
Short version: Normal people see Hatsune Miku concert youtube video(the crazy 3D projection one) and freak the fuck out because it's so outrageously "weird/creepy/disgusting". My first time actually seeing this sort of reaction, and I get somewhat annoyed" What are your thoughts. (sorry for wall of text, tried to condense it as much as possible)
I totally know what you mean. I'm no fan of Vocaloids, I know like 2 of them and while a couple of their songs are nice, none of them are great imo.
But what really pisses me off is the utter superiority and "thank god we're not that weird"-ness with which people ridicule a lot of otaku culture. The willingness to unite in demeaning a new and unknown phenomenon is really sickening.
Side story: One of my friends, who is an art major, told me that one of her professors told her that this anime-style drawing she was producing was "too generic." To him, all things drawn in the anime-style were bland, repetitive and unimpressive. This is the kind of uninformed contempt you can expect from (many, not all) "normal" people.
