Typically when it comes to Jax I like to build phage first for the sticking and then build the sustain.

Irelia also doesn't need the sustain right away which is why I didn't recommend the bilgewater first. She doesn't need it as much in lane due to her natural sustain being quite high.

Though just a few main tips when using her.

1. Don't use your Q to farm just to farm with it. While a portion of the mana cost is returned to you if you last hit with it, it's still a little bit of mana lost to it. You want to last hit with basic attack as much as possible while using Q to farm if needed to get the cs.

2. When trading in lane, you want to Q to a minion that is almost dead instead of directly Qing to the enemy champion. The main reason is you want to get a stun from your E instead of the slow so you do not want to damage the opponent straight off. The other is that if they dash away or flash away you can still rengage with your Q onto them.

3. Skill leveling up. The typical order is Level 1 - Q. Level 2 - E, Level 3 - W. You then max W first followed by E second and Q last.

Why do you level up Q last? Farming reasons. Her Q isn't necessarily the highest amount of damage she dishes out and it's more combining her kit with the true damage of her W and getting off Triforce procs. So since Q always refreshes 35 mana and you don't get more at higher levels, leveling it up first actually disbenefits you in lane because you'll be using more mana on it.

E also increases the stun/slow duration on higher levels including another reason to level it over Q.

4. Item builds. With the new Triforce it is a definite must on Irelia now. And unlike Jax, she doesn't need added sustain to her kit right away or even at all given the situation so Bork isn't as needed in the kit though it is still quite powerful on her.

Her lane opponent will determine how you build though. On people like Riven or Renekton who just absolutely dominate early you might want to look into getting some early ninja tabi or even warden's mail/chainmail before going full on into Triforce. Though if you're able to outplay your opponent it is always beneficial to get Triforce as early as possible. Her sustain will give her pseudo tankiness from that one item alone.

Typically on Irelia you only want 2 and possible just 1 damage item. Triforce ranks the highest for damage items with Bork after it. If given the situation, Zephyr could replace your boots though since she is not as strong in the very late game you optimally don't want to reach a 6 item build.

Since Irelia is only a so so split pusher needing her ult to really shove lanes hard, Randuin's Omen is often a better buy on her than Sunfire Cape. If you're absolutely going to have to contest to split-pushing by pushing back you might consider sunfire cape but I usually always go RO if I want a heavy armor option.

Your AP item should almost always be Spirit Visage. It is just too good of an item on Irelia to be compared to any other MR possibilities on her.

Guardian Angel is also a good buy on her as well.

My build path typically follows this on her.

Triforce -> RO/Spirit Visage -> Guardian Angel -> Bork -> Secondary Defensive Item.

I will occasionally do Bork after triforce or RO/Spirit Visage especially if I've snowballed ahead or it's against an opponent I can afford to do it on.

If your team lacks two tank sources, often I'll even forgo BORK and just go straight out Triforce + 4 defensive items.

And fuck that last game. An hour long slugfest where we had most of their base, but they kept creaking in good team fights and getting baron. Then they would defend, we'd get a little bit more of their base. They'd get a crucial team fight and get baron again.

OVER AND FUCKING OVER AGAIN! FOR AN HOUR! We lost half the fights because our Varus was always already retreating before the fight was over.

No wonder people like playing Garen against a Nasus.
