You can still play on a regular TV, the PS3 even comes with component cables.

You could buy a HD compatible monitor(If you do make sure speakers are on the monitor for audio. Unless your TV is close enough, then you can just run th audio through that.) instead and hook the PS3 up to that. You'd just need to buy an HDMI cable.
