Well I only care for the story, and while the choices always offer additional details, they're usually ignorable and kind of a waste of time to go through.
Well people say that overwhelming power always corrupt. Given that he had resisted his desires for quite some time (before giving in to evil logic and worked out a way around his 'promises'), we can say that he at least tried lawl. But yeah, this is one of the most evil H VNs I've ever read yet.
I could read Japanese good enough now so I don't wait for translations, and I strictly follow the walkthrough with some exceptions where I want to see the outcome of a certain choice.
Indeed, that last puzzle totally killed the supposedly serious mood for me, I mean like, wtf right? XD
Yeah, like I say, there are a little plot holes in the VN if you scrutinize at it closely. One would be the, "you're not capable of resisting it because subconsciously, you want it to happen" logic. It sounds probable but actually was just hentai logic; while I'm lazy to look up real facts to support my words, I'm pretty sure the conscious mind will be able to override whatever subconscious commands that were given to them, IF they know exactly what the hypnotic suggestion is. Especially when faced with a crisis - the protagonist wasn't even using hypnosis at the end of some heroines and was just plain giving commands! Notice it! If it was exploiting natural routine then it's still barely acceptable, but to render people immobilize and force them to orgasm until near death (and completely broken) is just unrealistic. -_-"
I also remember that as soon as the 2nd and 3rd hypnosis, the protagonist was working to render the 'negative suggestion resistance' useless with simple, repeated and completely subtle suggestions (Ex: For the black hair beauty, her 'wake up' routine, that is to raise both her hands up in the air and stretch, is a way to gain her subconscious' approval and make her susceptible to hypnosis). Ultimately hypnosis forcefully induces the mind to execute certain routines again and again until it happens as naturally as breathing, and I do believe that there are certain things that the magician would be able to force no matter how much the subject tries to refuse. It's impossible for most people to control let's say, their internal organs right?
Although hypnosis' effects are of course way too overhyped, and while theoretically it's possible to force someone to er, orgasm against their will, that'll probably take at least years of continuous hypnosis.
Okay, now that's done and over, review for 999 Hours!
So, number 1: As usual, I envy the author's capabilities to shamelessly pick apart and construct false theories from loose facts and make them sound so goddamn convincing. I envy even more how they had managed to put so many puzzles - INTERESTING puzzles - and make them fit perfectly in the game. You just don't find such level of puzzles anywhere else.
Most of the major plot twists did not come as a surprise to me because I went through every other ending (except Coffin) first before unlocking the true end. Unfortunately I did fail to foresee the final major plot twist, even though I have played games like Ever 17 and Never 11.
The epilogue twist is funny as hell, that's for sure. It gave me the biggest surprise AND smile for the game. xD

Some people just can't stand HF's dark and depressive atmosphere, and the main heroine Sakura doesn't exactly has the best personality either (if not the worst). I do however agree that its storyline is the most entertaining to read out of all.
I don't remember lol. I'll just list it from my current VNs rather than the old ones since any VN that I keep for archive are awesome in its own way... Monster Girl Quest???
I was thinking how many of you actually managed to finish the games unless you had a career on it and play 24/7.
I just watch the walkthrough lol. An uploader on YouTube whom I subscribed to had the earliest release on his region.
Before anyone starts crying about AC3 ending, you are wrong. This is probably one of the better endings I've seen in the video game history, and is NOT comparable to ME3's ending failure.
Continuing on Whirlpool's 竜翼ã®ãƒ¡ãƒãƒ‡ã‚£ã‚¢ -Diva with the blessed dragonol.
So the story's really good (for a pure love one). The main heroines Meru and Flora has some pretty amazing song scenes, and Meru is less annoying than I initially thought. Her voice actor still irks me though, because they could definitely do away with that deliberate kawaii~ tone and go with a more normal one instead. Once again, Flora's voice actor is really, really amazing and fits the character perfectly.
Cynthia's route is rather short - still have one route I haven't finished yet, but possibly the shortest one out of all - but overall it was pretty well done. The problems are not overly decorated and the characters true to their personalities, so all is good. The only thing I feel dissatisfied about it is that they could've used her parents as a discussable topic in her route with all the foreshadowing and all, but they didn't.
Which brings me to Selphie's route. For the first 2/3 of her route everything was very well written and detailed, but near the end everything was unveiled way too suddenly and short. Granted, I have great respect for the writer and scene animators because of how well they managed to handle the displays despite the sudden cut - suspected time constraint and shit - but the near ending definitely could've been written much better. I feel poor for the villain because the person was presented to be subtle and smart, and yet suddenly the villain decides to be stupid just because.
EDIT: Finished everything. Chloe's route is definitely my second favorite after Floria's. Her 'researcher' outfit is probably the first one ever to open my eyes; I'd really like to see it made on real life if possible.
The True Route was, well, haah... Disappointing. Even if I don't mention the weird bug that rotates a few particular CGs 100 million times per second, the true end felt rushed, cliched, and incomplete. Sure, the duet was beautiful to listen for the ears, but the scenes are just... too rushed.
Onto the next VN, å‚¬çœ éŠæˆ¯. If you're wondering why I'm suddenly going through these with lightning speed, it's just because I'm trying to tell myself the end isn't coming and I don't have 2 tests at the morrow at 8am morning and I haven't studied shit and my project's deadline is coming up etc etc etc. Escapism to its max. Ahem.
So first impression. For what seems to be a short H VN, it has some AMAZINGLY GOOD interface. The whole interface design must've been made from scratch, because it's unlike anything I've seen before and follows a much, much, MUCH cleaner format. It's worth going through this VN even if the story might turn out shitty (which I haven't go through so don't judge it just yet) just to enjoy the new, clean, beautiful interface.
EDIT 2:
Uh wow, å‚¬çœ éŠæˆ¯. Psychologically brutal is all I can say. I went through my favorite girl's route and was treated to one helluva show. How to put it? The psychological torture through Hypnosis - so evil yet so irresistible - here is absolutely amazing. First, the protagonist here had an amazing personality. Yes, if you try to go on a 'love' route with a specific girl, you'll notice that he truly respects and loves the girl he chose to train his hypnosis with. And, as a man, he can justify clearly that using his hypnosis to maximize a girl's affection for him is the same as how a normal guy tries everything he has to hit on a girl (which btw, I agree). The only difference here is that his actions are seen as criminal. He does make sure that his girl is happy, so depending on how 'wide' your morality view is, this guy can either be good or insanely terrifying.
He also plays fair, to a certain extent. When trying to decide whether to continue hypno-loving a girl, he put down to suggestions into the girl: 1, he maximizes the sexual desire and affection of a girl towards him. 2, he emphasis that the girl will use her own will and judgment to decide whether she wants to take a step further and seal their 'love' once and for all. Obviously the cheating elements are still huge here, but it is true that he never tried to work against the girl's wishes.
The hypnosis techniques and theories worked here all sound extremely believable and pretty goddamn logical honestly, for a stranger to hypnosis. Details were spelled out painstakingly, and this makes the sex scenes er... how to say, brutal. That's the only word I can think of honestly. SCARY AS HELL is another good description. After how he broke a girl's heart, implanted fake memories and 'live happily ever after' with her was so... WRONG that I can't help but grimace-skip through the next girl, and finally could not stand it and simply downloaded the save file. I don't think I can take the evil honestly. >_>
There are still some logic holes of course: 1) A hypnosis show should be done on total strangers (and in this case, his friends) to make the hypnosis believable, and the idea of hypnotizing just one specific person will always be seen as 'fake'. Next, the protagonist had promised at a certain girl's route not to humiliate the girl with his hypnosis, and yet almost every technique they trained - something as simple as tricking out an emotion - can be seen as humiliating, which is weird.
All in all, one helluva epic hypnosis VN and the absolute BEST in its theme. Man I need the toilet.

Musical VN, so I'm like a million loves all the way.
The Queen's voice sounds new to my ears, and very cute. Not the kawaii~ kind of annoying, but just really pure and beautiful. Pretty amazing that they found someone this good to be a voice actor.
So far the story hasn't been disappointing; almost every little twists and turns are interesting to read. Was originally skeptical that it would turn out to be another generic pure love VN, but no, this is a GOOd pure love VN, and that's a huge difference.

If Yuela's the sword girl, then I went through that one because it's the girl I find most to my liking (and feels more 'True-ish' than the others).
... o_O Now that I'm reminded I never finished the final few fights because the map travelling thing got me annoyed and after some other few VNs I totally forgot about it. Oh well, it's not that good anyway; Soukoku no Arterial was more exciting and cool than this.
Just finished Youhei no Shigoto yesterday. As usual, Soft Chara makes some really addictive gameplays even with so many downsides that normally would've put off a story lover like me.
Basically, you own a guild once called, 'The Sword Wielding Red Wolf' renamed to 'Gate Guard Sheep' just because. It's actually a legitimate psychological tactic to make the enemies overconfident and underestimate your strength, but doesn't mean that it ain't hilarious.
The VN is a simple tower defense styled game where you defend your Wall against waves and waves of enemies with well placed units and many, many traps. Now before I list out the goods, let me list out the bads here first:
1) Research Tree too short. You have a number of modes to complete - up till 5 Modes in total, which means at least 5 playthroughs to get to the Final Mode; I've played this game 8 times in total btw - and you can complete all the upgrades as early as the 2nd playthrough. After that, you get to 1 time upgrade EVERYTHING (or as many upgrades you've unlocked) at once when you start a new mode. Cool feature, but well.
2) You defend only the same map (with previously blocked routes slowly unlocked as you start new modes) over and over. They set the time limit to 60 Turns so you won't get bored too fast, but unfortunately that doesn't solve the fundamental problem.
3) You defend ONLY, you don't really get to do anything else. There's no Invading or anything; you're really stuck to just defending that one map again and again, and the map's not even big.
4) Difficulty level early game - average hard. You'll have a haaaaaaard time the first 2 playthroughs because you'll want to do a lot of things, and without looking at the walkthroughs you might take a long time finding the right army combination for you (Btw, Dual Knights+Pits are absolutely awesome) and traps. Without earning enough Gold for your next playthrough - which you can only earn by Talking to various factions in your town - you'll find yourself completely outmatched and outnumbered by the enemies as they swarm you with over 40+ units and you with only 6 ~ 7.
5) Difficulty level after 2 playthroughs? EASY. I've earned so much gold that subsequent modes only put up a moderate challenge right at the end of the game. At that point the gold doesn't even matter anymore and you're going to be hoarding them simply because, well, GOOOOOLLLLDDDDD.
6) You have only 8 unit types to choose from, whereas your enemies have almost 3 FUCKING TIMES that number. UNIT TYPES. That is so bloody irritating that I wished so many times to be the invader instead of the defender, like what the hell man!
7) Story = non-existent. The most interesting storyline in the game is the nun Wendy's. I had previously thought that the Final Mode would talk more about the politics and indeed they did, but the added lines were less than fifty. Holy shit disappointing honestly. And trying to gun for a certain sub heroine is like winning a lottery because of how random some events are.
And the goods? It's just GOOD. And ADDICTIVE. Despite all the flaws that would've turned anyone away Soft Chara has managed to build a tower defense game that's pretty damn awesome and kept me playing for 2 days straight. I had built myself the perfect setup of Traps and Units that could defend against even 100 enemies, with only 10 units, and most of the times the 3 units defending the Final Wall NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO FIGHT. Holy shit yes I'm so awesome. In short, Soft Chara really needs to work on their flaws, but heck, they've DEFINITELY got the right idea on building gameplays. Thumbs Up for a game this good even though it was so bad.

There really isn't any good Horror themed Visual Novels out there, because there ain't many people who make them. Saya no Uta is boring from my perspective at least. Horror with action is not horror enough in my opinion.
... Hmm, that IS a rather unexplored genre. Maybe I should go check out the database myself and see if there's anything good.

Because we all have evil in our hearts, and sometimes we like nothing better than to see someone getting destroyed in a fashion we can enjoy?
Lol damn. Are you sure you don't want to challenge Lily vs Downy or Seru vs Downy? The Harem route has Black Papilon vs Shezar, Berio vs Shezar, Kaede vs Mudo, Nanashi vs Lobelia, Rubinasu vs Lobelia, Lily vs Downy, SERU vs Downy, and Taiga vs God Mia (all skills upgraded, pretty damn powerful actually). Sooo many interesting match-ups; are you REALLY sure you want to miss them? Not to mention Butterfly God is pretty beautiful despite the ugly, annoying Caterpillar God.
And I'm not sure how your fighting style hold up against mine, but Mudo is the type I have tonnes of problems with because of his high damage/high defense, whereas Shezar has never once been a problem for me lol. I meant that seriously. Shezar fights were easy, because as I've said I've played through not just Taiga vs Shezar, but also BP/Berio vs Shezar. They're remotely challenging, but Kaede vs Mudo is veeery annoying because despite how dodgy Kaede can be, one hit from Mudo deals a tonne of damage.
God Mia is also pretty damn powerful...
EDIT: Playing Sirius' Demonion because I was bored out of my wits after a day without something to read. Julian is so cute, so amazingly cute, not your generic bland character but an actual WOMAN that could be actually be met in real life. Ah Julian~
At first I was playing Zero Infinity: Devil of Maxwell, however awesome it looks on the outside, had a pretty hard-to-digest level of writing. I'm not saying that the writer is bad, but his writing style just doesn't click with my mind. When I first played a VN from Malie (the VN company) it was pretty awesome, then I played a second VN (which had a city setting and supposedly much lighthearted atmosphere) and it was REALLY starting to get tedious, and finally with Devil of Maxwell I just give up. Totally.
This guy's writing... how to say? He can spent like 200~300 goddamn words just explaining ONE part of the protagonist's thought process about his personal philosophy, which to be honest is an interesting read, but the problem is it pops out MULTIPLE times at least in just ONE chapter. And the philosophy talk doesn't end there either; it slips into practically everyone's dialogues except for airheaded/mascot characters, where they just go on and on about philosophy and more philosophy.
For example the entire prologue of Devil of Maxwell can be summed up as: Blood and war are terrifying beyond any imagination, science are both evil and good. And yet the writer would use up to twenty minutes (of my life, and I'm a pretty damn quick reader) just to talk about that over, and over, and over again. God it's so tedious. God it can be good, but it's like stuffing cheesecake into my mouth again and again until I grew so sick that I don't ever want to touch another piece of that goddamn thing anymore. Ugh.
Then I thought of playing Rewrite, but the design of the VN just physically REPELS me. The map movement is a total, complete waste of my time, mainly because I'm spending up to ten minutes doing nothing but randomly scrolling the cursor until a red spot pops out, click it, read about... what? Swimming in the a lake three times like an idiot? Talking to dogs? See freakish animals? Prank your neighbor? Like wtf? What's the point of all this? What the hell am I even reading?
Sure I've seen some pretty epic illustrations and CGs from promotional trailers and such, but by the gods, I am NOT going through such pointless stuff to get them unless I'm totally out of materials and the next best VN is a month away from publishing.
EDIT 2: Finished Demonion by Sirius. Despite it's generic storyline, this VN has one of the best and uniquely depicted Demon King I've ever seen in so many Demon King SRPG games. So this Demon King is named the King of Desires (or something like that), so he has an unusually strong attraction to beautiful woman, incredible sex techniques, and a cock hard as steel (literally LOL). Women who have sex with him would almost inevitably fall for his charm simply because - just assuming - every time they have sex with him, he gains a hold over the person itself, starting with the body and eventually gnawing right into the heart and mind. So his abilities actually fits his title pretty well, and that's good.
Next, he is without a doubt evil. I've always had a problem with some Demon Kings in the VNs not acting like one, and have too much human compassion that they look more human than monster. But this guy really is a devil. He cares for the heroines, but only to satisfy his own desire and dominate their heart and soul completely. He takes pleasure in killing his enemies and absolutely does not have the remorse you would usually see in other generic Demon Kings, and that's awesome. He doesn't bother with things that are he's not interested and dumps all the troublesome responsibility to his women. That fits his image as a Demon King.
Not only that, he sees things clearly and could easily see through the weaknesses of a person's mind and work from there. Almost all of the heroines in Demonion failed to perform their best (Except Julian, Vanessa and Neige) when fighting against him simply because he twisted his words well enough to drive right into their hearts and sowing doubt. When he and Vanessa was attacked by overwhelming amounts of enemy, he had the smarts to realize that it is pointless to even try to fight and immediately escaped before they were caught, despite his pride as a Demon King. Never mind his true age, it is fitting that a two hundred years old Demon King would have the wisdom to drive fear and doubt into his enemies.
With a possible sequel prepared at the end of the Extra story, this is definitely one game that I'm looking forward to play in the future should it come out. Very, VERY good Demon King characterization.

Noooo, you must complete every route in the game, YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE ME ALONE TO SUFFER HERE! C'MON! *curses*
But the Harem End counts as the True End for DS. And there are various interesting fights that you won't get anywhere else but here (Unless you play Endless Mode where you get to choose different characters).
The best route? Well, I'll say that Nanashi (Yesh, zombie girl) and Lily's route are by far the best out of all of them, and the Harem route - by completing every single girl - the most challenging. You'll find many people agreeing with me that we absolutely adore Nanashi's route, and Lily is a VERY STRONG girl despite her slightly annoying tsundere. You know why Mia hated her? Because Lily was everything Mia could've been, but Mia didn't have the courage to become that and became a weakling who can't do anything but rely on her brother. Lily faced the same tragedy - if not far worse - tragedy as Mia did, but she stood up for her beliefs and always moved forwards despite her insecurities. So yes, Lily and Nanashi. But you should just follow the walkthrough and finish Rico's first, because having a bad playthrough later on is going to taste horrid on the tongue.
You're still going to drop 50% of your skill level when you play through Mia's due to sheer annoyance and depression though.
