Yeah, this one was good, it will scare you if you watcj it alone, in the dark. :lol:

They scare factor of this anime is pretty high, some are ecen life threatening, I'm really scared of the "The Fur Elise" episode.

The dub is awesome.

I've always wanted to watch this, but I have no idea where to download it from, sub or dub.

A) I hate streaming files... the buffering drives me nuts, and b) I hate dubs on a general basis.

Watch several episodes of this dub. It is awesome. The entire script has been re-written.

Well, I usually don't care if the dubs present a slightly different spin, I'll just enjoy that version as it is, but I usually find dubs to be lacking in skill, and the voices just grate at my ears. I'll give this series a try after more searching, and if I can't find any subs, I'll try out the streaming dubs.

You don't get it, do you? This isn't a "slightly different spin," it's a re-write! Completely different things! The Japanese is like "blah, blah, horror, horror" while the English is like "lolwtf did she really just say that?!"

I'm well aware of the dubbing that changed the series into a comedic pretext. It's just I'd rather not deal with streaming files because of low quality (though the megavideo seems decent) and the buffering. After all, I don't have the fastest connection around.

Plus, I like the watch the original version because then I know what's really supposed to happen. The dubbed version throws in humor from real life like Family Guy, which I don't watch and I should. I dunno if I'd appreciate the change. Then again, I have a mountain load of anime to watch, not counting the current season: Guyver TV series, Stratos 4 Advance, Natsume Yuujinchou, Mermaid Forest, Itazura na Kiss, Kanokon, and the current season.

I don't get why they completely changed the script for the dub. It turned what was a horror show into a comedy show. It may be funny, but if someone did that to my work, I'd be pissed. I mean, people can make fun or create humorous things, but how many people watched the dub of this series thinking that they really said that stuff in the Japanese version. Half of the people who watched it probably thought, "Oh man, the Japanese are hilarious!"

If you're going to change the show into a comedy, let people know. Sell the dub as the parody edition or something. Don't let people buy it thinking that the dub reflects what is actually said.

@ ShaggyJebus: It's not like ADV went 4Kids on it and didn't include the subtitles. And there's always the Animax dub. Also, I doubt anyone thought the Japanese wrote the script with a guy saying "Giggity giggity!"

It's worth mentioning that I have yet to hear someone actually praise Ghost Stories' original script for being something more than a typical, episodic, horror story for little children.

True, the original story can be found in the subtitles, but it just seems wrong that the people who made the dub felt the need to release their own work via someone else's work. If they wanted to do comedy, why not create their own website and put out their own shit?

Maybe I just hate the idea that I could create a show, even if it was shitty, and it could be released overseas with a dub that had nothing to do with the material. It's the same reason I hate the dub of Shin-chan that comes on Adult Swim. It's taking something that someone created and turning it into something it's not.

Do you remember a few years back, when Adult Swim got an old Lupin the 3rd series from the 70s?

Well, I remember that the dub threw a line in there referencing "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" A friend of mine commented to me when that happened: "Isn't it great? The show's new, but they can give it that old look." He seriously thought that the show was new. I had to tell him that it was decades old and the dub team had just slipped an anachronistic joke in there.

That's why I believe some people will watch the dub of Ghost Stories and think that the Japanese actually wrote it as a comedy series. They may reason that the Japanese wouldn't put Family Guy references in a show, but the dub team just replaced a joke about Japanese TV with a joke about American TV. They wouldn't think for a second that the dub team just pulled something out of their asses.

Wait, Shin-chan can actually be enjoyed? ... Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised since its a fact that there are people that think certain crappy anime are great.

Anyway, I still don't see the problem. The original is there, in all its glory. It's not like the subtitles aren't available, it's not like a rice ball was edited into a sandwich, it's not like the BG music was replaced with shitty dub mixes. Coexistence is possible, yes?

Maybe it's a question of why the dub team felt the need to come up with a completely new script that turned the show into a comedy. If the show's bad, don't bother bringing it over to America. Creating the new script makes it seem like the people bought the rights to the series just so they could throw in their own funny dialogue.

When you buy a Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie, you know you're not actually buying the movie, you're buying the funny shit said during the movie by people who had nothing to do with the actual movie. And when you buy the movie MST3K was mocking, you know you're not going to get the funny stuff MST3K did, just the movie itself. Combining the two may be cool, but it'd infringe on copyrights and might confuse people that the funny dialogue came from the people who made the movie.

And yes, scenes weren't cut out. Background music wasn't changed. But the core part of the show, the plot itself, was changed. And even if the dub is funny as hell, this sort of thing just seems wrong. If people want to write funny scripts, they can create their own show.
