Mahjong anime by Gonzo.

The story centers around Saki Miyanaga, a timid freshman girl who has never enjoyed the Asian tile game of mahjong. However, another freshman brings her into their high school's mahjong club and into the competitive world of mahjong tournaments.

is this interesting...?? coz' the main idea is about mahjong and i rarely found any manga or anime about mahjong

There was
Igo, with Hikaru No Go
Shogi, with Shion no Ou
and now mahjongg, They probably talk about strategies on which tiles you must collect and which tiles to remove. :lol:

mahjongg is like playing Poker.

that's why i said "is it interesting ?"
ocz they usually add some interesting point if the main idea they're swhowing is too boring like jikaru no go (they add some historical and spiritual point)

Akagi was about Mahjong and it rocked. I'll give it a look.

Since I have some interest in Mahjong, I may catch the above-mentioned series once it starts airing, but mainly for the cute female protagonist which I see on the cover image. :D

I have no interest in mahjong but this still looks interesting...I'll catch it when I get a chance (can find a source for it). I mean I watched Hikaru No Go and enjoyed that with out knowing anything about the game, it was the characters and background story that made it very watchable for me.

My WTF factor didn't come from the idea of the show, but more from the little RPG battle sequence that came up. -_-

MOE AKAGI?! :lol: - That's what first came to mind.

but after seeing the PVs, it changed into Shion no Ou, Hikaru no Go, and the likes. The characters are way soo cute! This is gonna be a fun series along with its cast of seiyuus; Jun Fukuyama, Kana Ueda, Rie Kugimiya, etc. It seems like it's gonna be more about tournaments than anything else aside from the addition of some "imaginary/fantasy sequences" which reminded me of yugioh and the likes. :lol: Though the biggest concern is the fact that GONZO and the director of Dragonauts are at the helm of this series... :roll: (season in, season out, I'm only hating GONZO more and more this days) - but I'm an "anime fan" I just couldn't help it but watch some of their works despite of the word FAIL that lingers while at it. :?

I dunno, I think of mahjong, I think of the underworld. As much as I didn't like Akagi's animation style, it was definitely well suited, but mahjong and high school girls? I can't see myself digging this series.

Anybody know when this is going to come out, or if any group is planning to sub it?

It seems it's been licensed already and will be on Crunchyroll. :x

So much for the fantastic look of the series. It doesn't really matter when the quality of Crunchyroll sucks ass. Maybe someone will do to Saki what's been done with Naruto and put the subtitles on the high-quality raw.

I never expected Saki to be licensed that quickly. There goes my hope of seeing the cute, busty schoolgirl in stripping mahjong action. If the quality is unbearable, it may provide me with greater incentive to purchase the manga.

I have no idea how to play mahjong, but Saki made me want to learn how. 8) Despite not knowing anything about mahjong, this anime was very entertaining. I'm definitely going to keep watching this one.
