KUROZUKA

It would seem that there is little feedback on the recently finished Kurozuka anime ....
Blasphemy !
The series is way beyond awesome.
It's dark and gory but incredibly dynamic and the action scenes are one of the best I saw in an anime (and I saw 202 full series + a buttload of movies till this day if my list on anidb is accurate :P)
The storytelling, while hard to follow at times is very unique and intriguing as is the whole setting and mood. There's also a kind of adult romance in the center when a guy continues to peruse his love all the way from medieval Japan to a post-apocalyptic future.
I don't want to spoil anymore but if a dark and beautifull mix of gore+swordfights+gunfights+romance+mystery is to your liking then go for it !
Oh and - allow me to introduce Kuromitsu - the main, mysterious and smoking hot heroine of the show

Kurozuka indeed was an awesome series...it may not be up to par to the AWESOMENESS of HELLSING ULTIMATE OVA but is definitely still worth seeing!
MadHouse studios' did another magnificent job in adapting the series from the manga! ...though I still like the manga a little bit better.
Watch it now... it's just 12 episodes anyway!
for those interested...
here is the link where you can download all the episodes in torrent:
~I suggest SHS&YuS subs~

~I suggest SHS&YuS subs~They're good but Ureshii is better IMO. They subbed 10 of the 12 eps to this point and are likely to finish soon. The notable thing about them is that they cut out the OP/ED though. It's not that much of a loss though (both are medicore) and the filesize is smaller thx to it.

hmm....
I watched the first episode awhile back, but never got around to following the series due to the sheer epicness this fall/winter anime season.
Is it worth it, or will I have to drop it so I can catch up to other (knowingly) better stuff?

As long as a dark sometimes gory and grotesque mood fits your tastes, I think it's definitely worth it. Eps 1 and 2 may or may not be a good indicator about the series since after that it shifts to totally different environment and gains more action. Hard to find strongly simmilar titles but it shares much in common with Mnemosyne and Vampire Hunter D IMO.
The tags from anidb are a solid hint what to expect from Kurozuka (though the rating is a misunderstanding)
Spoiler:
Just don't expect an easy to follow series. It gets a bit psychological more than once and many early events wait till the very end to be explained.
