The story takes place in the middle of the 21st century when global warming has turned Tokyo into a tropical city. To reduce the temperature at the heart of the city by 5°C (9°F), the city is being reborn as the world’s largest forest city. However, despite the flow of refugees to the new city of Atlas, there are not many residents who can actually live there. Moreover, anti-government guerillas are attempting to stop the forestation.

I don't know how much GONZO could FAIL again on this one BUT it really is quite an intriguing series. I'm giving this a watch... (I've been contemplating on creating a thread for this myself)
BTW here's its Official Website all in ENGLISH:
(intro, character sketches, etc - can be seen there)

I have a ambivalent feeling for this series... I watch the first couple of episodes to test the waters, but if it doesn't get me, I'll drop it. I dunno, something about it isn't appealing to me as much as I think should be.

I just watched the first episode... and... I don't know how I should feel.
On one hand, it was really less entertaining than I hoped it would, and some moments were too naive or too stupid.
There also were some animation problems. Oh well, maybe it's just me but I'm overall disappointed by this episode.
I'll still watch some more, because I'm still really intrigued by this show. Something good might come out of it in the end.

Didn't like episode.
Really, I just found that minor things such as animation quirks bugged me.
However, I'll be watching this series, and hopefully I'll be rewarded.

Watched first three.
I don't think I'll be watching any more of this unless the 4-6 get glowing remarks.
Also, anone else think in the Op, that first shot of Kuniko, she looks kinda...creepy?

Im surprised that this topic got stashed away in storage only after three episodes. So I guess Ill give a little resurrection voodoo to this topic. First I want to say that the people that posted above me never really gave the chance a series. I mean come on only three episodes and you were able to determine that it was an a bad series. personally I think that the developments that happen through episodes 4-20 are awesome and help to develop the story. Also its not even being close to finished and so many questions that have yet to be answered. Also the art style and graphics that were put into this series were amazing, and also very soothing to the eye. Personally I give this series a thumbs up and would recommend to anyone who sort of likes layed back anime. I guess the best way I can describe this anime series is its sort of studio ghibli like but not totally. So if you like that kind of anime then this is definatly the series for you. Anyways hope to see some fellow shangra-la anime supporters further discuss how the series has developed since the start of this topic. :)
P.s- Also since this series has been stashed away Ill post a link to the streaming series for people just starting on this series

This series reeks of Gonzo but I'm really enjoying the ride just like that, believe it or not. If you know my disposition with regards to them and the animes they've made, this post of mine admitting to the fact that I'm still watching this (saw episode 18 just earlier today) should already come as a surprise.
Anyway, through and through, it's a decent series that's full of intrigue. There's a good amount of BS scattered around here and there (watch your step) but none of which that I can't handle. The animation, the twist and turns, I'm so used to those kind of things especially whenever Gonzo's behind it. :D
I'm not particularly attached to any character in here thus I can keep a very neutral demeanor with regards to comprehending the significance of certain actions, etc.
PS: I don't hate Ryouko. She may be a bitch but quite an intriguing one at that.

Well I finally got around to finishing this series, I'd been planning to finish it, and I got the time to today, I began watching the series when it first aired and found it enjoyable to say the least....at first. Then it started making less sense and of course all thanks to Gonzo, but I some how still found the series interesting nano desu. I can't really put it into words, I mean each character had something about them that I either liked or wanted to know moar about nano desu. Thou around the late 'teen' episodes I started losing interest, maybe because the plot became a little difficult to understand/follow, but that's just my opinion nano desu.
Upon finally reaching the end I was very displeased, thou again as you would agree Hermit,.....Gonzo.....ummmm....yeah. I mean I am glad there was some kinda of resolution, thou it seemed to rap up all to easily/quickly. Also it's amazing to, the stamina/luck some of these characters have, Sayoko shoulda died numerous times yet..... and other character just manage to escape death or survive where others wouldn't nano desu. For all the techno carbon jargon the series spoke of you'd think simple things like how much a character can take before they die would be looked at more thoroughly, but I digress. Perhaps the lack of sufficient character resolution was what disappointed me nano desu. Again with a large amount of characters and connections, I was hoping for something towards the end, just a little something.
And at the end, why am I not surprised that the last line spoken are, and by the main character of course....Shangri-la
