Tengen Toppa Gurran Lagann The Movie: GUREN HEN!!!

Manly tears indeed. Although I have a few complaints with it.
The pacing was off, which couldn't really be helped, considering that the movie was 2 hours long as is. But I think they really should have included the skull burial scene. Otherwise it feels like Kamina's just doing it for shits and giggles.
Also, does this mean that they're going to be making three movies then?

I finally got around to watching this almost two-hour long retelling of what supposedly was the first half of the entire TV series. And I can definitely say that it ain't bad, not bad at all.
It comes without saying that by compressing about 14 episodes into a single film, changes are to be expected, "fast-forwarding" (skipping some rather insignificant parts) included. More or less, this movie was really intended for those who already saw the original animation but either way, it wouldn't really hurt those who haven't, given that they'd do watch the anime some time after. All in all, there's some changes which I liked and a few which I didn't. Despite those, the foundation of the whole story was kept intact which certainly is a good thing. With everything said, I still enjoyed it nevertheless.
Yoko and Nia are simply way too much indulging than anything else that this series has to offer. Getting another chance like this just to see them again should be more than enough reason for anyone to watch this shit! :D
Lastly, I wouldn't really be able to completely judge this yet considering that there's still the "Ragan-hen" to wrap things up. For now, aside from being incomplete (obviously), the film couldn't possibly stand on its own without its anime reference. So hopefully, the sequel would be able to justify its course.
@Nate: Manly tears... there's no helping it. It's nothing to be ashamed of, I won't deny that I did...NOT much for Kamina though. In the end, I still don't like him. If not only for his quite meaningful existence which shaped Simon into becoming a MAN... I would have lol'd even while he was being massacred and all.
Something irrelevant; you really have no ounce of ambition don't you... does the mere thought of yourself being lumped with the bunch of us "Elders" make you sick? That or something else that nobody can ever comprehend...
@Klorofolun: A third one is highly unlikely. The remaining events should fit comfortably enough in another one and a half to two hours of screening. And as the movies' sub-titles suggest; (do the math) "GUREN"/hen plus "RAGAN"/hen equals... there shouldn't be any "remainder".

well I gave it 30 mins and was like "wtf this is just the series but sewn together." The artwork was exactly the same except for a few minor things. Wasn't that impressed with it. But from your comments it seems I should give it another go.
