Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Well after about a month (although in all it took me less) I finally finished Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and it is absolutely amazing.

It's been the highest rated anime on MAL for a long time now, and it truly does deserve the top. Anime just has everything. Action, drama, sci-fi, political intrigue, romance... and even GAR characters that would put the GARfest to shame!

I don't really want to say anything more than that, but anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi, military drama has to see this! You can't let the fact that it is 110 episodes deter you, it's no filler. It's all 110 episodes of goodness.

I guess so this topic isn't completely pointless I'm going to hope that someone else has seen this and wouldn't mind discussing this, rather than me making this a LotGH advertisement thread. XD

Edit: Central Anime has the batch torrents on their page, but I'd seriously recommend getting the download Megaupload links here. It is a lot faster to download from MU, since only the first batch torrent (first season) goes at any due haste, and both are the Central Anime fansubs so you aren't sacrificing quality one way or another.

God knows I really wanted to give this a chance. Picked it up shortly after finishing Tytania (which I enjoyed quite a bit) due the omnipresent similarities and sharing much of the staff.
The art didn't scare me off and required little getting used to ... the music, pacing and old-school characters did their job though.
I won't say a bad thing about this show since it clearly earned the ratings it received. It's just that being as old as it is, it felt way too alien and lifeless for today's standards and failed to draw me in. Dropped it after 6 or 7 eps ...

I almost dropped it after the first five or six episodes, but I chose to stick with, and I was glad it did. Yeah, the first I'd say twenty episodes, or until about the last few episodes of the first season, are really slow to go anywhere.

I actually read through the light novel series in Japanese a few years back. Very good story, and actually is my favorite story/series. All the characters (even side characters) are developed through and have depth. Although, I got so used to Seiegfried's hair being a short/stright in the novel art, I couldnt get used to his hair being wavy/curly in the anime lolz

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my all time fafourite. Exelent story & epic space

Lol seeing that this thread is forgotten even for its greatness makes me sad. Japan should create this kind of space opera once more. Don't need alien, super robot, Gundam and etc. What u need is great tactic whether it is politic manuver or military strategy makes this anime rocks.

Indeed. I think a lot of people are turned off by the old animation style and the length, but if only they would give it the chance.

I don't see anything wrong with the animation style lol. If people can handle old Dragon Ball or even Hokuto no Ken, Why can they handle this art where the art is much better compare to those two.

Still for most kids these days the art style of log is going to be low. I wouldn't mind to see the same direction and script with a modern update to the style of art. I am a huge fan however, and it is one of my top #5 all time favs.

I've recently been trying to find time to watch this, just haven't had much time lately. :/

Only watched the first movie so far, which I thought was OK.

The real kicker is that it is different than most other stories. While other ones focus on a few characters and the plot goes on in the background, LoGH focuses more on the world and the characters act with in the plot. It does focus on a few in the long run, but they are still characters with in the plot, not leading the plot. When I watched the first episode of Last Exile I nearly drooled, because I thought I had finally found something similar, oh how disappointed I was.

Well trying to look a series as complex as LOGH is quite difficult i believe. As till now i have been looking for many sci fic politic anime but i just can seem to be able to find the one as complex as LOGH.

Even Tytania series that i thought would be able to be on par with LOGH just fall short.


Well for LOGH fans which side u guys would wanted to join if u guys are in the universe? GoldenBaum Dynasty(Lol), Free Planet Alliance, Phezzan or Longhengram Dynasty? or even the Earth Cult?

That would be the lesser of evils. Frankly I would start my own faction called: Lets be nice to each other! or the .
