I'm surprised to find myself writing one of these, I'm rather slow when it comes to when anime come out. Hermit almost always beats me to the punch line whenever there's an anime I find out about. However, if I've somehow missed it and there is one of this series already, feel free to delete.
Anyway:

Genre:Horror, Seinen, Thriller
----
Personally, after watching Higurashi, I feel like it's going to be something similar to that. The episode itself was way too cheerful. Higurashi made me squeamish, so I guess I'm paranoid after that. /wuss
Anyone else seen it? Also, it looks like there's a game too ;| Haven't looked into that though.
Anyway:

The story follows Hiroshi Kuzumi, a 16-year-old boy who has just moved to the seemingly serene village of Jogamachi. Nestled in the mountains far away from the city, the village is divided by a river that separates old Jogamachi from new Jogamachi. Young Hiroshi soon discovers that the village’s ancient as well as mysterious traditions and customs have been kept alive over the ages. Although a bit bewildered by the new environment, Hiroshi begins to settle into his new life. While he has never been the type to win any popularity contests, he quickly earns the affection of his classmates. That is with the exception of aloof class president, Nemuru Kushinada, whose only words to Hiroshi are a warning to stay away from old part of town. It is there that terror and mystery await him.

Curious and Wondering
I felt this anime series could be is similar to Higurashi too... given the cheery and nice-looking animation, there's the lead guy, moves into this town with weird customs, all the girls like him, and some ominous warnings to him given by a source. Although the lady with a scythe is a nice touch.
I actually watched this out of boredom as it was just after Dullalala in the gg site, but I was piqued instantly. I'd keep watching this series for sure.

Yup, this is what I felt after watching too, kinda eerie and super mysterious. :D

I'm having mixed feelings about this, especially since I never like Higurashi. Since it's made by the same guy, I can only imagine similar plot devices. I'll probably drop this if the series doesn't maintain a linear path.

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I just grabbed it on a whim last night, and it looks promising. I've never seen Higurashi myself, so there isn't any correlation for me I guess.
As if it makes a difference, here in about two weeks, I'll be gone from my computer for two months, so I won't be able to watch any anime for awhile anyway.

I just hope it's not as brutal when it comes to the deaths D;

Hopefully... I hope as well that it won't be as brutal as that. Bad thing about Higurashi is that they didn't hold back on the gore and kill factor. I felt kind of sick on some scenes from there on Higurashi.

Honestly, I never watched Higurashi season 2 for that factor. After I finished the first series I was all 'okay, I've gotta watch some shoujo or comedies for a while.' I was never interested in watching another season of that.

So I keep reading this series is like Higurashi and that got my expectations... it made them.
I enjoyed Higurashi and when something is compared to it I assume it is good.
This wasn't.
I was able to watch about a minute of the first episode before speeding through it to see if there was anything good about the rest of the episode.
Nothing was found.

You're quite impatient ;p.
It's made by the same guy who did Higurashi, and the 1st episode just came out.

if you mean Hakase then ya he is dumb, and this is a guess but I think Nemuru is starting to like him.

Basically the main protagonist, Kuzumi Hiroshi along with his dad and younger sister (Mana), arrive at the town of Jouga. There they start to live a new life. His father is a folktale writer so he is investigating the legends of Jouga town. Anyways for the first couple of episodes Kuzumi is welcomed by everyone in town. Maybe a bit too well. After that happens he notices people start going crazy around him (won't say why since it spoils the story.), and ultimately he witnesses a murder at night and oddly enough the town is almost like not caring it happened.
