The anime adapts George Abe and Masasumi Kakizaki's acclaimed manga about six junior delinquents and their mentor at the ShÅnan Special Reform School near Tokyo in 1955. The story follows the boys' lives during their time in the school and the years after they leave.
Confirmed, finally after almost 2 years!

I'll use this thread to notify you that all the new threads you made have been added to the list because THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. I first heard it from a friend and started reading the manga. I've been looking forward to this adaptation for so long, and I hope it turns out to be epic.

Alternative title: Rainbow - The Criminal Seven of Compound Two, Cell Six
Production: MADHOUSE
Watched episode 1 today.
It's great to see something solemn along all the current fanservice stuff. Right from the start with a bus scene or inspection you know this isn't going to be a fun ride and damn I'm glad for that.
I've read this comment somewhere:
and fully agree. Don't even try to watch this unless you're ready to see something very different from your usual line-up.
With that said, I'm going to take a notshared smoke, so you better keep watch.

Very great. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys mature shows that take more than half a brain to comprehend.

Just watched the first episode and i haven't seen something that intense in awhile with all the light-hearted happy sunshine animes it's good to see something a little more serious and dark every now and then... also they get points for using one of coldrain's songs in their opening! this is going to be a really great anime. props to hermit for the post which got me to watch this :)

Finally good to see a anime with fluff, bright colors, or fan service. Just a down right awsome story and character cast.

I'm sure that this series and Angel Beats will be the most emotional ones of this season.
Finishing episode one, I realized one thing: this is probably going to be one of the more down-to-earth and nitty-gritty anime I've seen in a long time. You can tell, from the very first scene, that this will not be a fun ride at all. This is not something like K-ON!!, where we see rather bland characters made for the purpose of being cutesy. If you want something that will likely make you feel like shit for the main characters, watch this.

What catcher said...
(nah, not really)
The usual tone-down with all the minor changes aside, I don’t believe that the †˜once-upon-a-time’ approach was the way to go for this series. Before I knew it (though it's within my expectations), the OP sequence may have even hinted on Anchan’s death.
You've made your point guys but that is for neither one of you to decide. Really, it all depends on one's definition of what a fun ride actually is.

Just watched episode 2 and goddamn do I really hate censorship. It was really way funnier (in an awful funny way) in the manga. Fun ride!

Episode 2 was awsome, however the way his "sister" reacted was so rude to him, it blew my mind.

Also I think she intentionally pushed away her adopted brother as him utter devotion was endangering him at the time.

True but their was a clear opportunity to shut down that entire operation with some more information in regards to what that orphanage leader did.

Like anyone would believe any of the words coming out of a criminal's mouth. And without any form of evidence, what you're suggesting is highly unlikely.

Exactly what hermitVI said.
Also, the security that came to pick up Joe were fully aware that something was awry when she fucking smashed his head in with a vase. They decided against taking any action though.
...and the fact that his sister didn't protest would just (and did) invalidate all of which Joe said.
You also have to take into consideration that this is a dark series. They aren't going to throw you a happy ending anytime soon.
Hell, as the series progresses they may all die and the last episode is Bro saying some sentimental line before he collapses.
[size=9](Though the first episode did mention that this is the story of how they survived, it may be a figure of speech ie. "their strength/determination never died")[/h]
I'm sure you all are already aware but the doctor is a pedophile/gay/sexually attracted to the boys/ect.
If I had to compare him to anyone I'd say hes similar to the orphanage director in the sense that the inmates are his play-things.

I just finished watching episode 5 and I must say this anime is getting freaking good. Those guys who run the facility are just douche bags.
In regards to the episode it was very interesting to see that when "Bro" got hurt Mario steps in to try and do something, but when "Bro" finds out that Mario gets hurt, specifically his hand he just cant keep in this rage anymore. It is almost like they both want the other party to have a better life/chance than themselves.

Man episode 7 was intense, a very dark episode. I love how Rainbow is one of the few animes keeping a series story with none of that fluff.
I hope the one guard grabs the bull by the balls here and stops those the doctor and Ishihara from attempting to kill Bro because of the knowledge he possesses.

I don't understand why Bro is in jail if he didn't really kill his father. Perhaps they just left it out or there is another reason behind his imprisonment. I mean, wouldn't there be an investigation to see if he was connected to his fathers death? This is a good point, even if he told investigators about the comment he made to his father I do not think he would be jailed for those statements. After all he never said in words that his father should go kill himself.

His strong belief that he had killed his father (regardless) led him to admit to a crime that he did not commit; simple as that.
You’ll be amazed by what the human mind is capable of. Really!
Does it need further explanation: There’s an argument, punches were thrown, and one falls off the bridge—dead. The carcass creates a scene, the scene is investigated, the investigation arrives at the door of the first-degree relatives, the terrible-shocking news is delivered, and the son (who is an idiot) confesses. End of story.
You said it yourself, it was Japan just (10 years) after WWII. It was a low-profile case. Why bother validating the words of a suspect who already admitted to the crime, when it would only take a second to condemn him and a few minutes to drag his minor-ass to (minors)jail?
