Lucky Star, or ZOMG WHAT AN OP
0
So that not every thread on the board ends up a show recommendation or favorite animu post, let's hit up a few newer shows.
I'll start with Lucky Star, a new show based on a popular 4koma of the same name. For the uninitiated, 4koma are short vertical 4-panel comic strips designed primarily for comedy. They can exist as themselves (as in Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh) or more commonly serve as bookends to chapters in more traditionally laid-out manga (as in Genshiken).
Lucky Star is a 4koma series illustrated and written by Yoshimizu Kagami, is a school-life comedy in the same silly vein as Azumanga Daioh, that of cute, silly girls talking about nothing in particular. In western cartoon or live action comedy 4koma-based anime are usually most similar to current episodes of The Simpsons or Seinfeld, but much less sexually charged or edgy.
Background over, Lucky Star's just started airing, and is being produced by now-phenomenally popular Kyoto Animation, the studio responsible for The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, the 2006 remake of Kanon, and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. Anyone familiar with any of the above series will know that KyoAni is fucking GANGBUSTERS.
Anyway, my impressions are that Lucky Star is awesome. Mind you I lurved Azumanga Daioh, so this kind of pointless silliness is right up my alley.

That's just off the fucking chain. I contracted diabetes, it was that sweet. You can tell they blew the budget on the OP and hiring awesome voice actresses, but it worked.
Shows like this need good fansubbers to get the humor through, so if you're planning to follow it I recommend you stick with a.f.k. Fansubs. They were excellent with both Kanon and Haruhi and they're excellent here too. You might think it only matters that you know what they're saying, but when I first saw episode 1 on speedsubs I was "meh". Then I tried a.f.k.'s subs, I committed to following Lucky Star, so hilarious I found it.

I agree that a.f.k's are the best. I watched LC's for the second episode and it was just filled with annoying little spelling and grammar errors. Aside from that though it's definitely becoming one of my favorite new shows, and that's only after two episodes.

Yeah, some of these groups and fans just don't realize how important good writing and editing are. It isn't always enough that you speak moonlanguage and can work subbing freeware, you have to be able to effectively convey the characters.

Haha this show looks awesome! I tried checking out the OP yesterday but for some reason YouTube wasn't working. I definately recommend checking this out. I am currently in the process of watching the first episode on YouTube :D

Only show I picked up this season was Darker Than BLACK. Nothing else really seems to interest me. I've watched the first 4 episodes of Heroic Age and it's not terrible but not great. Claymore seems okay but Shinsen is taking it's fucking sweet ass time subbing it. And I've tried to watch the first episode of Reideen 3 times and can't get past the first 5 minutes before either having to go somewhere or winding up doing something else.
I might try Lucky Star though.

Assassin, Froth Bite is also carying Claymore. I don't know if they are faster or better, but they are reliable in my opinion.

Lucky Star sort of drags - there's to much discussion that leads nowhere. I don't think Lucky Star is even in the same league as AzuDai. That show at least understood that pacing was important for pointless conversations and that you need something to break up a half hour of them. I'm really liking Lovely Complex and Seirei no Moribito. Lovely Complex definately has the funnest characters this season and Seirei no Moribito is probably the best looking series this season and has a a good (if slightly cliched) story.

The closest I could find was this...

So where are the other characters?
There were like, around six (not including the main 4) female schoolmate/classmate characters shown in the opening
one i've seen in a scene is the brown-haired yellow-eyed one that kinda reminds me of Kagura from Azumanga Daiou
the other one is the orange-honey-haired girl with a white hairband
they appeared in a scene which compares Kagami's class with Konata's class on how people of their class would address Kagami
and episode 11 (latest one i have) says that Akira-sama would finally show up in the main show... considering her situation and Sebastian's, i think she'd only end up as a background extra XD
and even though i asked, please don't spoil anything for me :3
