Synopsis
In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war breaks out over interplanetary travel tech. The environment is pretty much destroyed so mankind leaves Earth and starts Star Calendar 00. Entertainment and songs become heavily regulated and eventually banned due to their power to move people, but a brave idol group puts on guerrilla performances in the name of a famous act from earlier times that sang to Earth's bitter end, AKB48. The illegal revival group's name is... AKB0048.
-----------
Currently the most underrated title this season (with Space Brothers). lol
honestly try watching it first if you have doubts about it.
Besides, this anime has a bunch of GODLY female seiyuu, while the AKB48 members voice acting isn't bad.

Underrated? To be underrated, a show has to be good. And this show is utter garbage. Stupid premise, annoying characters, bad music, Vocoloid grade CG...I watched episode 1, and dropped this.

I'm not claiming this title to be "oh god it's beautiful", I'm claiming this show caught me by surprised. Honestly An anime that reeks of fan dick-stroking being good? Well, surprisingly it is good.
Stupid Premise : Seriously, calling it stupid when it tries for originality, and I bet $100 that you'll still say it's bad when the don't use something original
Annoying Characters : You've just watch one episode, how shallow of a person can you be
Bad Music: Your opinion = Nothing
CG = I see that your the kind of people that says any kind of CG is bad.
If you didn't like, why do you even care about posting in here.

This looks to me like a full-blown act of trolling but I might aswell try it.It's not a troll at all, just look at one of the staff
Kawamori, Shoji (Macross Guy)
Director, Mechanical Design, Original Creator
And this is anime isn't just made just for promotions sake:

Precure for otaku :PI need to remind myself that this series is just a vehicle to sell CDs, toys and other stuff to some fans - just cut those CGI they are still atrocious
but nevertheless Akibastar was hilarious XD
Actually it's not like that. The show isn't aired on any major TV station in Japan, despite the pull that AKB48 have in Japan. They can totally get primetime slot on big major station without even trying. The producer didn't show interest in simulcast either because CR said they bid on every anime but AKB0048 isn't on the list.
If the intention is money and to help make some anime otakus like AKB (since anime otakus HATE them), they're not even attempting to promote to show that much which will limit their intake.
FYI, Mal user B is an AKB48 fan.

Mod Note: I would urge all users to refrain from trolling or flaming a particular anime title. I understand that each individual may have different tastes when it comes to anime viewing, but do kindly respect the views and opinions of your fellow members.
Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.
The one reason why the AKB0048 anime caught my attention was its slightly later than usual airing date. While most anime titles of the Spring 2012 season started airing in early April, AKB0048 aired in late April instead, if I did not remember wrongly.
Although I have yet to watch the anime, I would say AKB48 is making its way into the world of anime and manga (with the above-mentioned title, as well as the manga entitled AKB49 or something along those lines). So far, they seem to be rather successful.

that's weird.. don't they have that manga AKB49? i think it's kind of better than this. im passing on this series since well.. it's not that i hate it but it kinda(?)bores me. i like the singing part but the setting in which idols are deliberately banned and them being a rouge idol really doesn't give me anything. c'mon now, a massive amount of people gathered after all that police checkpoints, seriously? would prefer AKB49 manga to have an anime than the one airing right now ._.

They're not "rogue" idols. They originally based on a Planet called Akibastar and wanted to spread the joys of entertainments. They'll only have to fight if it's against a planet that still bans entertainment, and there's also terrorist that will try to eliminate entertainment. And of course there are planets that doesn't ban entertainment, shown at episode 3.
honestly don't judge it just by the 1st episode.

good thing i just watched 1 episode. looks like it's way too grand than what i had originally thought. i don't really know how to express it but it feels a little corny(i can't say it with a more complex words. im dumb, do let it pass) if i have to put the danger lvl of the obstacles i'd say it's just a 1.5 with 5 being the highest, comrade dying, mind breaking and group destroying danger. it's.... not really exciting

I've enjoyed the series so far. The music of course has been good and having a lot of unfamiliar voices has been a nice change from the normal series. Seems like a lot of focus will be inward on this group trying to become full members.

Well I am no expert on anime reviewing, nor does my opinion count for anything, but I must say I actually liked this series after just episode number one.
For starters I actually have close to zero knowledge of AKB what ever it is, its some singing/idol group or something right? In one of my class was a die hard fan but I managed to avoid him and was spared from what ever rants he went on about. With that said-my take of the first episode.
Actually the first few minutes almost made consider dropping it, I hadn't seen anything about the show trailer/PVs etc. So I thought that the main characters would be the young kids in the beginning, after the whole 4 years later thing, I wasn't bothered by it anymore.
Music wise, I actually like the songs, and hearing them again in a different remix-ways as background music is nice too. I'd probably end up upset if a series with Idols as the theme subjected itself to using some generic background music.
I like the look of the characters, but the heart shaped eye thing can be a bit weird at times, but that's just me being picky. As for those "CG" moments, I see nothing wrong with them.
There's really nothing I can compare it too-ofc I haven't seen every anime ever made, I could be wrong but from what I've seen, nothing quite fits this series in a imilar way. So I am looking forward to watching the whole series. I guess I could see why people would drop this show or not even look at it, but the originality of it is enough for me.

Necrobump, this show is totally underrated and underwatched! Animation is excellent, music is awesome, story is surprisingly excellent, and for once Shoji Kawamori has made a happy (?) ending?

Quoting a guy from MAL about this underrated successful series
Despite being..
1. hated by anime otakus who wanted the show to fail since first ep.
2. being air on small station
3. only have members that don't have alot of fans, except for Watanabe Mayu, and also most idol fans probably aren't that interested in anime.
The anime sold well and is 3rd seller this season.
Of course I'm not used to seeing AKB selling in 4 digit number..I mean their singles sell 1 million copies on the first day and even their Seibu Dome concert box which was $200 sold over 100k...so in term of it being AKB, the sales are horrible, in term of it compare to other animes, it's a hit.

It's only 500 copies away from the season favorite, Hyoka. And according to this explanation of sales number, around 7000 is considered favorite and the hit of the season and already guarantee 2nd season.
(the explanation: http://2chan.us/wordpress/2010/05/03/2ch-sales-numbers/)
....The only problem is...AKB girls are too busy. I doubt they can make a 2nd season in time for Fall. Watanabe Mayu who voice Chieri is releasing 2nd single Otona Jelly Bean soon, AKB finally have their dream come true by having a Tokyo Dome concert, which is high priority since the dome is a prestigious place for J-artists, Maeda Atsuko's graduation the day after, their 27th single release, and their 4th album all in August. Also there's members in SKE and NMB who are in the anime too who also have activities and releases soon....
The fastest we can get another season would probably in Winter or Spring at least :/ Which is probably why they already finished recording the 1st cour since they didn't have enough time to make a 26 ep show all at once.

Wow people really do like seeing things fail more than success guess failing school really does get to you, anyway hopefully this anime will get a second season I want to see more, I really loved the songs they sang and the action they had some pretty cool weapons and odd heroes.
I really would love to see an AKB concert since they have some good voices and cute girls of course.
