I hope a thread wasn't made yet, if not here we go.
I know people are playing this game, so we need a thread so we can talk about it. It's personally my first XCOM I've played and I'm really liking it mostly because it's unforgiving especially for a newbie like me. But once you grasp the thing, it's fun as hell.
For those who don't know this game, obligatory review:
F*ck yea

Just picked the game up today. I've only been through 4 missions so far, and already my sniper has 10 fucking confirmed kills. At first, I had to go out of the way to place him at a good perch before moving my team in. But now that he's ranked up, I can have him hanging back and popping targets from across the board.

Somehow I never heard of this before it was mentioned in the KS channel after the US release. Looks good enough for me to still get it as a pre-order over here in Europe, with the nice pre-order bonuses. Game's still on its way here, though, so haven't had a chance to play it yet. Hopefully they're right about it still being as good as the original was, really loved that one.

Been playing it for the last two days. Classic ironman straight from the start. Have yet to beat it.
The game is good, but I think they made some bad decisions. Limiting squad to 6 max, while retaining the same RNG factor is bad... Essentially you end up with more losses that you had no influence on. Has caused me to lose 2 games now (2 missions in a row where the entire team keeps missing EVERY 70-99% hit chance shot).
Something about the tech tree feels off too (others mention linearity, but can't comment too much. Just a feeling).
How I wish we could speed up combat animations... Takes too long.
I miss bade building across the world, but this is very minor.
General UI clunkiness.
Good game, but UFO Defense is still preferred game of the two, to me at least.

First XCOM game. I'm 22 missions in and holy fuck I'm addicted to this shit. Every time I complete a mission I'm compelled to finish my research/projects or get to the next event. As I scan a mission inevitably pops up and I feel compelled to do it. Just one more mission I tell myself. Then after I'm done with that the vicious cycle kicks in again. I have never procrastinated this hard.
Meet the team:
Spoiler:
Note: Sniper is wearing archangel, Dangerous Kid is wearing Titan, Support is wearing Skeleton, and everyone else is rolling in Carapace

others mention linearityGot plasma research early on after being told to capture aliens. Thin Man gave it. Never built foundry or did beam research until after I got a plasma rifle. Armor seems linear, however.
To parrot TotalBritfuck (a.k.a. TotalBuscuit; of youtube fame), the streamlining here isn't necessarily a bad thing. Less soldiers is good because they're not as expendable. (I believe he also dislikes the current cap, but the levels aren't very big, so I think it's fine.) Also, heavy micromanagement can be very tedious and would make the game drag on. I've never played UFO Defense so I don't know what it would be like playing with finite ammo and an inventory system, but I did play Fallout Tactics and each mission took me hours to beat due to all the little details. I think it's safe to say that the streamlining of Enemy Unknown is primarily due to consolefaggotry. Perhaps mods will rectify that.

I hope for mods too.
And I loved the old micromanagement.
I just don't like how losing 4/6 guys to rng, regardless of your planning and skill, is so much worse than losing 4/18 guys. Generally I support the idea they were going for, but they just changed one side of the equation. Imo cover should be more effective to counterbalance it.

Lol at the squad names.
On my 6th game, sigh. This time this game won't buttfuck me anymore on normal Ironman. Classic gave me a headache, Ennemies crit way too often too my taste despite the low chances.
5 Hours in, still didn't do the priority missions.

Playing on Classic: Ironman Mode... yeah going against 3 garrisons of Mutons along with 2 Cyberdisks, didn't end well.
Jesus Christ, Played it wrong too.... didnt get laser weapons and armor quick enough.

Now I know why people got addicted to this game. I'm getting addicted to this game too(since it's a bit SRW-ish kind of game that is.)

THIS GAME WILL DO YOU IN THE ASS = Suddenly no extraction point in ironman where it's so needed.
My assault man managed a one man show and killed all the mutons on his own with 6 hp bar left. I shall rename him Rambo and rightly so. Also, lightning reflexes is OP.
What I'm left with after the mission:

I hate doing Bomb Defusal missions in this game, I really really do. If your playing on Classic just have all your men on Overwatch as soon as you defuse it. Instead of 2 Thin men, its like 4 that ambush you...
