Disgaea Dimension 2: A Brighter Darkness

Earlier this year, NIS teased a a new project listed as "Project D". Today, it was finally announced that this game is "Disgaea Dimension 2". Here's a link to the teaser site that will go live in 12 days. The game is slated for release on March 13th, 2013 in Japan. Also, this is supposed to be their 20th anniversary title. (source)

I'm not exactly sure what the game is supposed to be but it could possibly be a remake or sequel to Disgaea 1. Personally, I would love to play D1 (or a D1 sequel) with high-res sprites and updated mechanics. Also, the BGM on the teaser site should sound very familiar to those who played the first game. Ahh, nostalgia.

This is going to be awesome and I have a feeling that I will playing this in the future.

This is a pleasant surprise, ill definitely be following this now. I wouldnt mind revisiting Laharls antics.

According to Gematsu, this will indeed be a sequel to Laharl's story. Below are some more pictures from the article. No surprises here but it looks likes there will be a limited edition.

I've been meaning to play these games but never got around to it.

Can I start with this game, Or should I start with 1?

Since this is a direct sequel, you should probably play D1 first. However, you wouldn't need to play 2, 3, and 4. All of the Disgaea games have independent stories and characters. There's plenty of cameo appearances throughout the series though. For example, I'd imagine that Axel (from Disgaea 2) would probably somehow make a cameo appearance in this game. Same with other characters from D2 through 4.

tl;dr - You can start wherever you want in the series but for this game in particular, I'd play D1 first.

Ill play any Disgaea game. It looks awesome and if there is a special edition ill grab that too. This is my favourite series.

Here's hoping they do something interesting with the characters, considering it's a direct sequel to the first game.

I liked D1, but I kinda feel that their repeated cameos got really annoying, with N1 reusing them over and over again. The same style of humor with them is getting old.

The humor is getting a little overused but the actual game-play has never gotten old for me. I just wish they'd ease up on the DLC. I loved Disgaea 4 but I hated how they had some obvious classes like kunoichi as DLC.

It's only a rumor, but we may be getting monster mounts in this game. I don't know how that would work but it still sounds awesome.

...Looking on the pics, the only surprise I see is that Laharl now wears pants. It's good they finally made a sequel to Disgaea 1 but I was hoping NIS would also make sequels to some of their previous games like Phantom Brave and Soul Nomad and the world eaters (aka Soul Cradle in Japan) and not just port 'em over and over to consoles and portables.

Also, here's a look at the figures you get from the Japanese limited edition.

You also get an art book and a two-disc soundtrack. There's no way NISA isn't localizing the game but I don't know if we'll get the figures.

I remember in the anime he had a girl posing as his sister, I wonder if they are going to use her for this game, also I want those figures.

I want them too. I just hope it's not like D4 where we didn't get the Fuka nendoroid like Japan did. Well, we did get a figure but it wasn't nearly as nice.

Now I have to play D1. Only played DHD.

(Does this mean more Disgaea hentai? :D)

I can only hope. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of good Disgaea hentai.

Anything Disgaea related is a must play for me hehe.
