Be warned: the artwork style changes over the course of the series. I liked it at the beginning.
But if the anime didn't satisfy you, the manga will. (and a mindfuck plot twist at the end)

AYA is likened to the "wakusei" version of Love Hina, or the Japanese version of what Love Hina would be like. However, AYA does Love Hina one up with a more intricate storyline and is more of a slice-of-life based than Love Hina.

Sorry to rain in on the parade, but there's already a thread in existence: https://www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?t=12740
But yea, I read the manga, but I still need to finish it.

I have the first DVD that I got back when I was much younger. I don't believe I watched it in Japanese but the plot kind of annoyed me. The American girl, holy shit I wanted to kill her. I never finished watching it because I didn't like the first DVD. At least I didn't buy it :) It was given to me

The manga is okay, but it's one of those stories that could just have well been told in half the time, or less. There was no reason to have all the harem antics going on and if anything they got in the way(although I do love Chika even if she was unnecessary)...
imo, if you liked this, check out Umi No Misaki. it's by the same author, still in progress. The artwork has improved a bit since Ai Yori Aoshi, the pacing is a lot better, and it's good a good gimmick to justify a harem.
