@CPOK: I think you've confused episode 17 from To aru Kagaku no Railgun with To aru Majutsu no Index, which is this thread is about the Index series.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a 3rd anime season? My guess is yes. I liked this series so much I couldnt wait to see if the anime was going to continue or not, and the manga is slow as all hell, so I read the Light Novels.
The 2nd anime finished at the end of SS Volume 1.

I would love if index had a third season, the ending left me wanting more.

It must have a 3rd season. The events after the 2nd season are godly.

There's no reason for an S3 to not come around eventually. The novels have material for 1-2 more seasons.

If the next season comes out then we'll have more of Acceleraper! But I'm sure it's gonna take a long time since the team is busy with other projects right now.

I would like to watch this but do I read the manga or watch the anime. If I have to watch the anime do i watch Index S1 then Railgun and then Index S2 or only Index S1 and 2? I'm very interested but I just didn't know which I should follow.

The Index anime's end in cliffhangers and the manga is way behind. The Railgun anime and manga are spin-off's of the Index series and can stand alone. That said some of references in Railgun will not make sense until you read/watch Index.
Since this thread has been bumped here is some more info about the upcoming movie
Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki
Coming out February 23 2013
Synopsis
Spoiler:
And heres a trailer
It will be interesting to see where this story fits into the whole World War 3 arc, if at all.

Expect a cliffhanger at the end of season 2 of Index. No word on season 3 yet. The Railgun manga is worth reading and stands alone. The Index manga follows the LN's.
