[Anime] Devil Survivor 2

I never knew there was a devil survivor anime. I just finished playing Devil Survivor and was about to move on to the second one.

were some of those summons from Persona? That said, even the protagonist looks sort of familiar. Good first ep though, got me interested in the game.

Devil Survivor is also a series under SMT. Hence the full name of the series is "Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2". Persona itself is just also another series under SMT. That's why All of them share the same monsters. Eventhough they're called Personas in Persona, or Devils in Devil Survivor.

I'm not sure if I should watch this. Is there any connection in the story between this and Devil Survivor 1? I only played half-way through the first game so I'm being cautious if there's any spoiler ahead.

No, aside from being called Devil Survivor and the fact that it has demons, DeSu 2 don't has any real connection, story wise at least, with the first one.

Oh I see, thanks. I like the story from the first game so if it's like you said, I find it strange that they chose to animate 2nd game rather than the first. I guess it's more popular in Japan then. Oh well, off to watch it now.

You are welcome, and I think they choose to animate the second one because Atlus is making an updated version for the 3DS, like they did with the original one, so I guess they want to promote it with the anime.
If we are lucky maybe they decide to make a movie of the first one, like they did with Persona (P4=anime, P3=movies).

Hotsuin's voice is a bit deeper than I thought it'd be. It's not bad though, just deeper. Other than that, it was a good second episode.

I'm guessing when you choose to "die", hostile demons get summoned from the phone rather than tamed ones. I'm not sure though, I haven't played the game.

In the game, when you first summon a demon you has to beat it, and if you fail, you got killed and the summoned demon gets free and your cellphone keeps emanating some weird miasma that keep summoning demons. Well, at least if you are an NPC that die off screen.


Episode 2:

Well that was pretty good, I was rather surprised that Junichi Suwabe was chosen as Yamato seiyuu, I always though that he would sound more like Hiroshi Kamiya, in fact I always though that either him, the hero or the Anguished One would be voiced by Hiroshi.
The plot was changed really a lot, but not in a bad sense, it didn't felt forced neither lacking the essence of the game, it's looking really good so far.
Also the scene of Byakko beating the shit out of those Itsumade was pretty sweet.

I'm kind of surprised they killed off Keita. I had everyone live in my play-through of the DS game so it sucks to see him die. I guess this could be used as a "push" to make Hibiki stronger. I didn't use Keita that often though. I used Fumi, Jungo, Airi, Makoto, and Otome the most.

Didn't expect that they would actually kill Keita, he was a jerk, but he also was a little tsundere, so it feels kinda of sad seeing him dying, especially if you manage to save everyone in the game.

I don't know what to think about the show I mean I looks good right now but for some reason I think it will end up rushed. Overall I like this ep and Daichi was pretty funny. Also holy shit I didn't think they would kill Ketia.


Apparently the anime is getting licensed for North America by Sentai Filmworks, and according with them, its going to be thirteen episode length. So... it may get rushed? I don't know.
With the way they had been handling it I was sure it was going to be a 18-22 length episode series, but with thirteen episodes... Hm.

I wish I could play the game before watching this anime. Sucks that it was corrupted when I was about to start. Well, at least while watching this anime, it is a little similar to the first game.

Though I'm not sure how will the story go on, but I'm certain that there are some routes the protagonist (Hibiki) would have to choose for the ending. Still, I'm liking the anime so far.

On the latest episode, it was a little unexpected when Keita died, especially on the first few days of the lockdown.
