Kekkai Sensen. I thought I'm make my first anime topic on a random adaption of a manga I've never heard of, because hell, why not?

Synopsis

Spoiler:
A breach between Earth and the netherworlds has opened up over the city of New York, trapping New Yorkers and creatures from other dimensions in an impenetrable bubble. They've lived together for years, in a world of crazy crime sci-fi sensibilities. Now someone is threatening to sever the bubble, and a group of stylish superhumans is working to keep it from happening.

So far, I'm at Ep.2, and I've found it to be ok. I wasn't blown away by the plot or characters, and it seemed like a generic shonen from what I've seen, but I was enjoying it. The things that really made it pop out to me were the sound and visuals. I think I could watch this show raw and still enjoy the experience as everything just looks and sounds amazing. I'm also a fan of the setting, although that may just go back to the visuals since all the backgrounds are eye candy to me. It really reminds me of Noragami in a lot of ways, with stunning visuals at times, noteworthy soundtrack, and an abundance of weird comic relief characters. Also got a bit of a Drrr vibe, mostly off the distinct atmosphere.

So I guess my main reason for sticking with it is highly subjective. What do you all think of the show?

Best ending song of the whole season.

Could be for the year but the year is still young. lol

Like you said the sounds and visuals really create a unique mood quite enjoyable.
Seems like Men in Black in the 50's

I'm just afraid it'll just be yet another generic shonen.. The 3rd episode was kinda funny though.

Also Porygon, your profile picture is the best moment in Death Paredo.

Kekkai Sense has a certain charm to it. Something about the world feels so fleshed out a nice. And the depth isn't hammered over your head with clunky exposition and the shows momentum never sows down to give you an explanation.

I mean the whole chess thing they played for that episode never turned into the generic "Game" anime where the explain every move and all the rules, because it was a lot better with the audience being in a state of wonderment.

I am not sure what to think of this after 4 episodes. Overall characters seem okay, but the main guy feels like he should be more important than he has been. Has some great visuals, but so far story just feels all over right now. Looking forward to the eyes being something important and developing characters a bit more. Also that 3rd episode i really didn't care for at all, was sort of boring compared to the previous 2.

EVIL:

For me, Kekkai Sensen is my favorite anime this Season. Don't care if others don't find it good or entertaining (as if anime title that can please EVERYONE exists in this world, anyways).

After watching eps 6, I have some guesses regarding White and her brother (Black, aka "King of Despair"). Given that they're anime-original, I doubt you can think this as spoiler, though...

  • Regarding White

Spoiler:

In eps 2, she said that she's a ghost, yet other people than Leo can also see her and interact with her (end of eps 5, she talked to one of the doctor). I don't think she's lying about it, though. I believe she's a ghost that possessing someone's body (in this case, the original 'White' girl). This based on how she reacted on Leo's photo about certain graveyard in eps 2-3. Given that she's confined in hospital since 3 years ago, I assume original White has some serious illness that make her doctor forbids her to leave the hospital (whether her illness has been cured or not when "ghost-White" possessing her, can't say).

  • Regarding Black

Spoiler:

He appeared first at the end of eps 1, then met both Leo and White in eps 4, and met up with Fehmt in eps 5. In eps 6, he appears to have good relationship with White, in contrast with her reaction to him at eps 4. Based on that and how he said that he never met Leo in subway before (eps 4), I think he's the same as "ghost-White"; a being that possessing human's body for some reason. His real body is that red-eyed blondie in blue coat that appears in OP&ED song. I think he's kinda different than "ghost-White" since he's one of the Kings, though (this also emphasizes of why White cried when watching movie with Leo at eps 5. Now, unlike White, character/personality of original Black seems intact and appears when King of Despair is not taking control of the body, hence why he doesn't remember about Leo and also explain why White is not acting cold toward him in eps 6.

If my guesses above are right, then my other guess about White-Black's fate at the end of this anime might be also hit the mark (not gonna say it now, though). But if I'm wrong, then those are merely wild guesses from me, hah.

Currently my favourite of the season. Favourite ED, one of my favourite OP, favourite girl, amazing action, fun characters, top soundtrack, and hilarity with enough seriousness and feels to go around. Here's hoping the consistency sticks.

I've probably watched the ending like 50 times over the last week. We're getting some good ops and eds this year.

Let me put this simply:

Kekkai Sensen could very well be the best anime I will watch this year. Right behind Fate: UBW in what has my interests on a week to week basis, I look forward to this series every week with great glee and anticipation. I'd recommend this series to my friends. I think just as a series, this series kicks so much ass as a creation of entertainment. It is so fun to watch, I don't think I have had this much fun with a series.

I implore anyone who reads this to go watch it. If DVD's and merch is out, buy it if you enjoy the series. I want a second season and I want it bad, and the one way I know to get one is to speak with cash.

This entire scene was just pure gold. It looked amazing, the music was amazing, and it made me laugh my ass off. Not sure what else I could ask for.

Oh shit. I stopped looking when it going to be released but this is great. Owari, kizu and kekkai on the same day. I'm not sure if I can take it.

Final episode was pretty great. Loved the music and the cinematography was good too.

I..... was some what disappointed with the ending, not gonna lie. Maybe cuz I had to wait so long for it. Not everything got wrapped up, or at least summarized well imo. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention to it.

The entire show was pretty disjointed honestly.
