I have already come to terms with anime character age's just look at the beginning of almost every visual novel "all characters represented in the following piece of fiction are of the age 18 or older" or something like that. Always gets me shaking my head laughing.

Lucky Star is scary on so many levels other than its age...
I usually don't like reading/watching shows that the characters look like theyre 5 but theyre highschoolers..just can't buy into it.
But otherwise I don't really care...I mean its fiction for a reason.

The age of the characters is just a number place on the character to identify with the targeted audience. Gara from Naruto is 15 because that is the age the show is targeted towards, but at 15 Gara is already leader of his village.Luck Star is targeted towards 17 and 18 year olds because the jokes are more a picking on the silly little things in life - something younger audiences wouldn't enjoy. The way they look is only the art style.
That's not the case on all anime/manga. If you've seen Crayon Shin-Chan, it's about kindergarten kids but the language and jokes in it are atleast 16+. Don't know about the original version but considering the jokes in it some times are about current happenings in the states etc makes me think they changed around alot of lines in it when they dubbed.
Anyway, a really funny anime, for those who haven't seen it.
