Before asking... ANIME SUGGESTION LIST
0
Can anyone tell me if there is any anime on the list which has any of these traits:
Historical, Mythology, Astrology, Legends, Mythological monsters (Youkais preferred)
I liked shows like Mushishi, Natsume's book of friends and Arakawa under the bridge.

I cooked up a list for you but be wary that all of them are nothing like Mushishi or Natsume. And me calling them stories about 'legends' or 'mythological monsters' could be pushing it a little too much, regardless I think all of these are great.
Katanagatari - Shichika and qt Togame are looking for 12 legendary swords. It's gorgeous, the characters are all interesting, the character development is believable and it's just overall fantastic.
Fate/Zero - Battle royale with legendary heroes from the past. Expect to see King Arthur battle with Alexander the Great.
Bakemonogatari - The closest thing to Mushishi that isn't Natsume that I could think of, although it isn't at all like them.

Thank you for your recommendations! They look interesting, I will give it a shot!

Does it mean I don't have a life if I watched all of the ones that were suggested and it still didn't cover all of the ones I watched?

Damn, that's a long list and it has Manga too. Well, I was fortunate enough to watch most of them. The ones that I couldn't watch where because I either couldn't find a copy of the DVD/Bluray or anywhere online to watch (only 4 of them, and they are the really old ones like Zoids to). Thanks for the manga recommendation list though, it will keep me busy when spring break comes.

Mr.Everwood
will see you now ;)
When we look for anime we tend to look up favourites lists, usually done by other fans who list the anime they enjoyed the most from the medium as a whole.
But I've come across something a bit different: ANNCast Revenge. This is a series of podcasts done by AnimeNewsNetwork were two critics along with two guest critics discuss their personal top 10 anime from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Each decade is done in two parts and with different guests.
This provides a much more varied and in-depth perspective than what you would see in most recommendation lists. To add they all do a very good job of selling the anime they're talking about. So if you're interested in something you haven't seen before, check them out:
