i find the episode really hard to describe.
it had me going around saying "Wtf?" and "Huh?"
so i had to rewatch the parts that were confusing to finally understand the situation.
The ending was well.. unexpected.

so yeah, he lives and "Shogun" lives within him.
and everything turns back to normal.

I actually think that delusion Takumi had about his "daily normal school life" would start soon. ^^

also, Wth was with that Shibuya River?
it was suppose to do something about the G-Rate but all it did was "freeze" that bad dude.

Yeah, they probably just wanted to give the girls unity some higher meaning in the final encounter, not really necessary.
The ending would leave so much more of an impression if he had stayed in his delusional utopia. Why must all great visionaries get their ideals smashed by a teenager in love?
