The young man Huey took over the old mansion of his deceased bibliomanic grand father as well as the book collection that's stored in there. But there was a condition: he also had to inherit the "Bibliotheca".

When he inspects the mansion, Huey discovers a cellar filled with piled up books. In the midst of them he comes across a black-dressed girl who's silently reading a book. She's called Dalian and has a big lock hanging in front of her. She herself is the entrance to the "Bibliotheca of Dantalian" which contains the prohibited "Phantom Books".

First Impressions:
Cross Victorique and Index and this is what you get.

GAINAX eh? this is interesting.

Looks good. Unfortunately, when I see a spell book, I can only think of the Necronomicon now... Reading too much Lovecraft lately.

Yup, this is what I got from reading the synopsis, with less Kujo and annoying Index.
And it's been a awhile since Daisuke Oono and Miyuki Sawashiro voiced a Main character. So, this should be good.

Yeah, I got that impression as well. Also with watching the trailer, I was somewhat surprised that it was a Gainax adaptation. I'll definitely be checking it out.

can someone describe the first episode because I got totally lost about half way through...I understand the girl and the book thing but the girl is also some kind of magical being?

The ED blew my mind away.

This show made me go WTF, but in a good way, like I really do what to try and understand what's going on.

Still finding it a little hard to believe this is by Gainax, given their usual track record. Interested, now that someone mentioned that it's like Gosick + Index.

I am liking this set up a lot, but i have a couple gripes with the way it unfolded for the first episode. First the pace was rather fast, and the main character either already knows a lot of what is going on or just readily accepts it at first glance like it is normal, which in turn we are forced into that pace as well. But i am still loving the way this series feels, and especially like how lively Dantalian is after people were comparing her to Victorique. It will be a fun adventure to have unfolded in front of us

Yeah that, I realized it as well, and I can't say I liked it.

Maybe he has past experiences with such events? Or it's just weird...
