Does Sword Art Online get better?

Huh, in the main SAO thread, someone told me Phantom Bullet was the weakest arc, coz guns aren't as cool as swords. After reading more, I'm inclined to agree. There's no doubt that Fairy Dance is a weak arc though. For your case, I also felt the same, coz the first few episodes are the so-called side stories. I didn't like how they would introduce a character(Silica, Lisbeth, etc.) then not show her again. Felt like there was no link between each episode. It does get much better later on when they start the main story, on floor 74, iirc.
Also, I'm up to vol 4 and have yet to encounter any sex scenes in the novels, am I reading the right SAO novel..? And what's with this ch 16.5 I've been hearing about, it doesn't seem to be on baka-tsuki, really confused lol.

Phantom Bullet is not weak because it is a gun based game. It is weakest because of reasons.

Okay one more question. Is it possible for me to just skip the crap at the start then? If so where should I pick up?

There's a youtube video of a young girl reading chapter 16.5.
It's really funny to listen to, in a sad demented sort of way.

The ln can start at the 72nd floor because there is more "content" in terms of character development and details about the world. The anime really needs the character development from the first couple episodes for you to understand Kirito and Asuna better and it is harder to understand the world very well if you just skip to episode 9, which is when gleam eyes starts.

The anime did it odd though, the author didn't introduce the inner area incident till volume 9.
I don't like how it included all of this extra information that the novel didn't originally have.

It's not including any extra information. It's going in chronological order. The inner area incident was in volume 8 btw. How far did you read?

I've read everything that's been translated.
I messed up the volumes because I just got home from the bar and I'm not thinking correctly lol.

Yep. But I guess I'm just a sucker for the whole Kirito and Asuna relationship, and just sore that Asuna appears to be a side character in GGO.

I kind of want to know as well.I stopped after like 12 or 13 and can't find the need to push on.
Kirito just seems so generic and well gary sue-ish. Asuna was okay...and the lovey dovey scenes happened.
I'm like "Aren't your lives in danger because of this game? stop screwing around and get back to work".
Spoiler:
See what I forgot to mention is I know that, the anime just does a shit job of showing it. And yes I also like certain characters that just exudes confidence and is just awesome but kirito man...kirito...

Asuna has her own whole (well, at least most) volume, you don't need to be sad about her lack of involvement on other volumes.

Well, if only Kirito played Guild Wars 2...if only....if only...The game is so old in their time line though, I think.
