Homunculus tells the story of a middle aged man, who spends his days living in a car, smack inbetween a park infested with homeless people and a large, upper-class hotel complex. He has nothing, yet he is always classily dressed and looks well taken care of, despite the fact he sleeps in his car. Once a day, he always takes the car out for a ride, no matter what the weather. One day, an oddly dressed young man approaches him, and asks him if he would like to participate in a little experiment... Involving having a hole drilled in his skull. He promptly refuses; he has no need for money anyway. The next day, however, his car runs out of gas and gets towed. Desperate for money to get his car back, he approaches the young man and accepts to have the hole drilled in his skull. ''A safe procedure.'', he is assured. But then, of course, that's when the side effects kick in...

For people who like very clever and psychological stuff, this is a MUST read. I know the name kinda really sounds bad, and the pics you'll find out there may not be that appealing (i've added some here so you can get a better taste of it), and the story also may not seem like anything cool. But if you like a good story, you'll certainly like this.

Read Homunculus Online

This Manga was a delightful and intellectual read. It explores the human psyche and reveals how shallow human nature is. This story was another masterpiece by Hideo Yamamoto, the same author of "Ichi the Killer,"

WOOT, I got a reply!
Yes, it is from the author of "Ichi the killer"("Kuroshiya Ichi")- Hideo Yamamoto. Though, I think homunculus is waaaaaaay superior. On every sense.

Oh yes! If anyone actually is reading it, you must've noticed that you can't download more than to the 8th volume. Thats because the group who was translating it (the Hawks) abandoned the project. But now, after a year of waiting, a new team has picked up the project from where it had stopped. Illuminati-manga released vol09 recently and they're gonna keep on translating it as far as I know. :D

You can download volume 09 here.

I'm waiting for the 10th volume to come out in the summer. I wish it were a weekly release but I don't feel that it is right to rush a genius's masterpiece.

Spoiler:
-If only Yamamoto-sensei let the school girl become a side kick there would be more fan service, but her homunculus is gone so there is no more further use for her in the story.
-The protagonist is like a human computer. Who can calculate to the rising of waves by just tapping with his hand? He would be able to solve the economic recession.

I'm surprised that this hasn't been picked up by an American company yet...considering it's been picked up in Italy, Spain, Germany, and France.

That wouldn't happen, because she isn't aware of the homunculus. And fan service? Like the burusera part? I wouldn't call that fan service.
Nakoshi (the protagonist) isn't this human computer you say he is. He was just absolutely engulfed in his job, which was all basically math.

Aw man I just saw that chapter. Although it was very short, it was enough to satisfy me after this full year without Homunculus. I love this manga so much <3

Oh, crap, there is a continuation! Haha. Time to read. I kinda stopped somewhere in volume 9.

I mean, really, they should announce this kind of stuff sooner.

I'm in par with what the illuminati guys are doing. Volume 11 is completely clean, only translation and typesetting is left. But it could take who knows how long. But it's always worth it.
