Shuicihi Nitori appears to be a shy and quiet preteen boy, when he transfers to a new school he quickly makes friends with the tomboyish Yoshino Takatsuki who sits next to him. It soon becomes apparent that both Shucihi and Yoshino are more than simply a sensitive boy and masculine girl, they both are transgendered. Together they decide to take the first steps toward becoming the people they want to be.
I haven't yet seen this show, but I was wondering what others think of the subjects and questions presented in it.

Took someone long enough to actually post about Hourou.
The questions about sexual deviation and crossdressing is what got me into this series.
I find it all rather intriguing and interesting, since the situations often comes up irl, though not as cute as this.

The Iconoclast
This series needs a damn award. The idea behind the story is fresh, well portrayed, and just flat out amazing. If only more anime's like this one came around, life would be great.

If you're looking to read it just a little bit sooner than at the reader sites, you can get them at the translator's site: http://houroumusume.livejournal.com
This and Aoi Hana are my favorite manga right now, both by the same artist. I have been watching the anime, but mostly out of a sense of obligation, I much prefer the manga. The anime isn't bad, though. It is a little scary to think how they might try to wrap it up though.

Got Megane?
Actually when I first read the synopsis I knew I'd love this series, but I had to many other things to watch, so I decided to wait and watch it all once its finished, or I could read the manga in the meantime, what would you recommend?? Should I read the manga before or after watching the series?

Read or watch? Your answer is what you should do.
The anime is better than I expected. The quality is good so far, and hasn't degraded
unlike some other titles as each episode is made.

I think it might be better to read the manga. One of the things I've wondered while watching is how well first-timers might understand what's going on.
The anime story begins at Volume 5 of the manga. There are a few references and one or two brief flashbacks, but a lot of the backstory and the origin of some of the relationships is left completely unsaid.
However, as a warning, if you've never read any of Shimura Takako's manga before, she likes to jump back and forth a lot in the story, and has a lot of ambiguous scene transitions which can be a little confusing. You get used to it though, and the art and overall story always make up for it to me.
You might have to hunt a bit for scanlations of the early volumes since most online readers don't have them.
Lemme know if you can't find them and I'll zip em up for you.

The Iconoclast
Episode 11 was a great wrap up for an amazing series, I cannot wait to read the manga now.
I hope to see more anime this refreshing in the future.
The main thing I enjoyed besides the fresh story idea was the fact that you must think about the situation to truly grasp what is being portrayed. If you take your mind off the show for even a minute your are going to be confused.

I enjoyed this from start to finish.
Do the books continue further into his life?

Tsujoi- Yes it continues. The anime covered Volumes 5 - 10, and they are currently into number 12.
Pretty short at 11 episodes, but it was alright. The manga is better, but when isn't that the case?

Probably because the anime only covers a portion of the manga.
Seriously though, at first i was a bit turned off about the whole genderbender thing but im glad i didn't put this one down (partially thanks to the wonderful OST and magnificent pacing. Oh and Anna <3). It really is a shame, the genderbender and obscurity of this anime will put a lot of people off from watching this gem of an anime. One of the best slice of life series i have ever watched, i'm just left speechless wanting more. Hell after watching this anime i was prompted to read the manga, considering ive only ever have read 5 or so manga in my life, that's saying something.
COME ON S2 ^_^

Got Megane?
Got around to finishing this finally, and honestly I couldn't stop watching it once I picked up where I left off(somewhere around episode 3). I loved this series so much, and I really do wish they'd make another season of it. I intend to read the manga now, once I have the time. Like Anesthetize said, this really is a gem of an anime. I was shocked once I got to episode 11 and realized it was the last episode.
