I never really understood the appeal of Hatsune Miku. But...

...I can totally empathize with Rin fans, because, damn it, she's cute. Heck, she's perfect. Awesome outfit, bright teal eyes, that bitchin' arm-panel thing going on, and the ribbons on her chest and hair top it off.
The hot pants + leggings really bring the look over-the-top. Do want.
My younger brother bought me a figurine of her to put on my desk. It's awesome.
Don't get me wrong, pretty much everyone seems to be a Miku fan and Miku's totally cool, but Rin's design just has something about it.

I'm not a Vocaloid fan, let alone Rin, but I do own this delicious figure:

I love all the Vocaloids-some less than others but never hatred, however Miku remains my my favorite because she opened my ears to music. She was the first Vocaloid I listened to at a concert during Mikupolis 2009, I was pessimistic toward music to the point of thinking that if nobody in the music industry at that time could appeal to me, then what chance does a dressed up lump of code have? It was then that I heard her sing. People were driven mad, they were hollering while leaping from their seats, screaming in ecstasy hours after the finale, but to me her voice felt too real to believe. So I indulged my curiosity and dived more into the world of Vocaloids discovering their cultural worth, their struggles to be accepted by society, their facades and above all the power they gave to the people who could not sing for themselves. I owe this realization to Miku.

Most of the music that's emotionally affected me has been by Sonic Youth, God Lives Underwater, Get Set Go, and Nine Inch Nails. >_>
The one thing I've never understood in terms of popularity was Radiohead. I've heard literally almost every song they've ever done in the history of their career dozens of times, all the way through from Pablo Honey to In Rainbows, and I just don't get it. I love music, I listen to everything from every era, and usually I get it with whatever groups were influential at the time, but in that instance I just don't understand the appeal. Some people are outright religious about Thom Yorke and co., they've called them (more accurately, him) everything from revolutionary to transcendent, and I just don't get it. I like the song "Videotape" a lot, but that's about it.
I bring that up for two reasons. One, it was connected to a story I read about hikikomori. Two, one of my artsy friends in high school was only my friend as far as either of our artsy interests went, and he said he was influenced in large part by them, except he became so successful in his pursuits that he made a film into Sundance, and freaking won awards for it. Sure, I earned a few public accolades on my own for some stuff I did in college, in no small part because we were creative partners at one point and split for reasons of "creative differences", but I never made it into anything as absurdly awesome as Sundance.
And mad props for Labrys.

It does not sound that cool when you get down to the reality that I was an overly pessimistic brat that used up all of his summer time in front of a computer researching scantily clad digital girls.
One of the most striking Vocaloid related albums that quickly took over my life would be the recently popular Kagerou Days by Jin. His music rose to fame so quickly that he already has a manga for his song that is also due for an anime soon. It's all because he's very talented at telling a story while keeping the music flowing.
Labrys is the 13th Murakumo Unit. I refuse to accept any other reasoning.

Whatever, man, really. I'm more or less an egoist who doesn't care how inspiration comes along. Any visit to my room, at 26 years old, dropped out of college after seven years, living at home with a not-exactly-ideal familial indifference, there's no hiding the fact that I've got dozens of dakimakura, PVC figurines, tons of manga and anime merchandise, and anyone who knows me knows that much about me. I've got my longest-time schoolyard male friend being wed in a few months who wants me in his wedding on the opposite side of the country and I'm getting lectured about showing more concern at the same time I'm trying to find the appropriate way to cope with my two ex-girlfriends' repeated rapes, their impossible-to-shake rationalizations that it was their fault, and losing touch with the one girl who I ever considered worth nurturing in a loving context. Most people are indifferent about all of that, but it serves as a wake-up call that I think everyone's got increasingly-serious problems as life evolves. That's probably more than needs to be said about the matter, but I don't like it when people put themselves down for whatever personal reason.
My personal music hipsterness and creative-split jealousies with now-iconic rivals in music and art who became staggeringly successful aside, I appreciate anyone who teaches me something new. If I ever find these artists and albums you mention, I'm totally there, especially if you have a source. I'll do anything to be inspired, and word of mouth goes all the way with me.

Some of the songs will have PVs that Jin entrusted Wannypuu to animate for him, and the animations help understand the events taking place in the story so it's a relatively good idea to watch them. Aside from it's exceptional quality (give or take in certain songs), I love Kagerou Project for being intellectually stimulating by providing important questoins. My soulmate died, now what? What is worth dying for? What is death when living is hell? Despite the grim theme Kagerou Project actually has about four or more upbeat moe songs.

It's the magic of twintails I swear... I've seen such sorcery at work on Azu-nyan and other twintails that gathered a lot of popularity. At least, that's what I think the reason why there are many Miku fans anyway. I'm a Luka fan so I wouldn't give so much of a damn for Miku

If we are talking about design and looks then I would choose Luka.
I just love her long hair and the fact that its pink is a huge plus.
Luka is also super cute in her school uniform agh!
I guess you could say she looks a bit more mature than a lot of the other Vocaloids and I just love her overall design.

There's something appealing about all the Vocaloids, look-wise, in my opinion: they each have their own nuance. But I would agree with you that Rin's design is probably the best. Len does a lot for me personally, me-ow.

I'm 100% straight, and on the opposite side of my mostly SFW Rin dakimakura, Len is there, and it doesn't bother me at all. I feel like he belongs there, somehow. >_>

I'm a huge fan of Luka. She's gorgeous. Love her outfits. I mean Miku has her perfect fits but I think Luka has many too. Her voice compliments Gakupo's so well. Luka ftw!
To give Rin some credit, I do think her Meltdown outfit is beautiful with it's appearance in Project Diva Dreamy Theater 2nd. The extra detail is what makes it pop from the original design. I also love her hairdo.
I think I like Lily's design best from the Rin/Lin family group. I love the long hair and how stunning she can look with her outfits.
Lastly, the Miku craze is there but I think there's enough fans of the other vocaloids as well. I'm not a big fan of Miku but I have to admit that she can look great and that her songs are nice. Probably my favs of hers are Weekender and Clover Club. I love the songs and the outfit designs.

lol xD I just know the basics and then some. Most of the outfit designs I've seen are from pics and cosplay websites. But for the songs, I had a friend who was obsessed with the games and Miku. But I still love Luka x3

I find it kind of amazing how many styles of vocoloid there are not only in outfits but in art forms as well and that's what I really like because for me its all about the art and how their eyes look and the colors used when itcomes to design. Everytime though Luka steals my heart with that cute face and pink hair.
Speaking of hair Mikus hair s kind of iconic now. When you see that color hair now you always think Miku!!!
