Man, I love this anime. It was the 2nd or 3rd anime I watched (real noob at the time xD), and I was still a kid. It REALLY got to me. I didn't cry (only last month I cried for the first time watching anime- thx to Clannad), but I was like traumatized for a whole week. I was a like complete zombie. Intense stuff.
2nd favorite anime of all time *thumbs up* ^^

I liked the anime a lot too, but oh man. As the FAKKU Staff know I have been playing the Kiminozo game these past couple months or so, and while the anime's pretty good, the game completely blows it out of the water. You know, just like how the FSN game is a thousand times better than the anime.

The intensity and the insight you get into how the characters think is incredible, the whole thing is extremely well-written, and the emotional factor is off the charts. I've teared up so many times, felt my heart wrench so many times, hung my head at how horrible things turned out with the bad ends, felt myself melt with the romantic scenes etc. Not to mention the amazing artwork. And to top it off, it's realistic. It's a story that could totally happen in real life, to anybody, and employs everyday things that every one can relate to.

No wonder this eroge was so highly praised and much discussed when it came out in 2001. It really is in a class of its own, and ranks up there as one of the best eroge I've ever played. Though it definitely won't appeal to everyone simply because it has the potential to make you totally depressed (as did the anime), but I'll admit I'm hopelessly addicted to it at the moment and have been pestering both Jacob and Nikon countless times to watch the anime so I can bowl them both over with my overwhelming flow of Kiminozo-induced emotions.

So far I've completed the Haruka route, the Fumio route, all of Mitsuki's bad ends, and am partways into Mitsuki's route. Maybe I'll create a thread in the Eroge discussion forum, though the only reason I didn't do so already is because I doubt I'd get responses, if at all, the game being untranslated and all.

Yeah, it'd be a waste to do such a post at the moment. But fear not!! translation is on it's way - although only 15% - but i'm optimist. And the thing I do best is wait. And now that you've said such thing about the game, I CANNOT miss it.
You say it's more intense? :D oh boy I want that. *drool*

I have a sinking feeling that playing the game would have significant impact on my otherwise undying love for this show. For now, with the language barrier being an impossible obstacle for me, it remains amongst my all time anime favorites.

Don't read if you still intend to watch it !!!

Theres a translation for the game coming up?! Woot, can't wait. One of my favourite animes without a doubt.

By the way are any of the spin-offs and the second season/retelling worth the time. The reviews and scores given to them make me want to stay away from them and not allow them to taint my memory of this awesome anime.

The spinoffs. Do NOT watch Akane maniax. If you really liked the anime, this will feel like an ass rape. They tottaly fucked it up in my opinion.

But the Kimi ga ~Next Season~ you should watch, by any means. ^^ It's a set of 4 OVA's, showing how it would've been if Takayuki chose Haruka instead of Mitsuki. I prefer the original ending though.

Just a bit of info on the set of 4 OVAs and how it relates to the game. I fleshed out that section of the game completely, and have been a aching to write a 50-page dissertation on it, but I'll settle with a nice couple of paragraphs. It does contain some rather major plot spoilers though, so don't open it unless you've already watched the anime.

Spoiler:
The storyline of the anime adaptation follows Haruka's route mainly, with elements of Mitsuki's route. In other words, it's all Haruka's route except for, as far as I know at this point, how Haruka and Mitsuki basically have a bitch fight over Takayuki and Haruka pleads for her lost three years to be returned to her, and the fact that Takayuki ends up with Mitsuki in the end.

There is basically a huge branch point in the game, where Haruka, after having recovered her memories and has been told that three years have passed, can tell that Mitsuki and Takayuki were going out. She calls for them both to come and see her at the same time, unbeknownst to them both, so she can confirm whether they were going out or not. So they go, Haruka drops the question, and the choice is whether to fulfill the promise Takayuki made with Mitsuki that he would tell Haruka about his and Mitsuki's relationship once Haruka recovered consciousness (which is required for Mitsuki's good ending), or stay quiet and let the opportunity pass (required to enter the Haruka route).

If the player lets the opportunity pass, Mitsuki basically becomes so emotionally hurt that, in despair and feeling extremely unloved, she sleeps with Shinji (Takayuki's best friend, in case you guys forgot), and Takayuki of course finds out a few days later. As like what happened in the anime, Takayuki gets pissed off at Shinji, and Shinji likewise berates Takayuki for hurting Mitsuki so horribly. By the time Takayuki and Mitsuki return to Takayuki's apartment, what happens is that Mitsuki, who loves Takayuki so much she is unable to let him go, offers to let him do absolutely anything, anything at all, including permission to court Haruka while keeping her (Mitsuki) as a sex slave, if he would be so kind as to let someone as dirty as her stay by his side. Another critical choice soon arises, where if you tell Mitsuki she's being an idiot, you get Haruka's good end, but if you succumb to Mitsuki's offer, what follows are some totally messed up scenes and endings including engineered rape, unwanted pregnancy, and Mitsuki turning into your dog. This whole "I'll do absolutely anything for you as long as you don't leave me behind" thing allowed for some of the most emotional scenes I've experienced in the game, however; a particular shower room scene comes to mind.

Now the thing with the Haruka route is, there is absolutely no way to obtain any sort of good ending with Mitsuki; basically, if you didn't fulfill the promise, Mitsuki would go and get herself soiled, Takayuki never gets over it, and Mitsuki regresses into being nothing more than Takayuki's property in order to stay by his side. This is different from the anime, where Takayuki is somehow able to get over the fact that Mitsuki slept with Shinji and they live together happily ever after.

To get Mitsuki's good end (ie. enter Mitsuki's route), the player must fulfill the promise by telling Haruka (when she dropped the question) that he and Mitsuki are dating. Haruka, of course, becomes devastated, but Mitsuki, who is so happy that Takayuki fulfilled their promise, does not run off to sleep with Shinji. What the rest of the route seems to be about (I'm still working on it), is how Haruka and the others recover from being Haruka's devastation that not only did she lose her three years of time (and thus her friends, school life, time with her family; ie. everyone was not how she remembered them to be), but also her beloved Takayuki, the man she had adored throughout her high-school days but never had more than a few weeks of time with before the accident.

In other words, the anime storyline was basically Haruka's route but with Mitsuki's ending, and is therefore not canon to any route in the game. The Next Season OVA basically revises the ending to Haruka's good end, and is also a very short summary of the Haruka Third Chapter (basically her "After Story").

Okay, so I ended up writing another essay on FAKKU that no one will read. I should stop wasting my time like that.
