[Movie] Madoka: The Movie Trilogy

Originally set to be announced in December's Newtype, it has been confirmed now that Madoka is indeed getting a movie project! This project is set to be a trilogy, consisting of three movies. The first two is a retelling of the story from the TV series, with the final movie going to be something completely new.

We now have information that Urobuchi Gen has already pretty much completed the script for the new movies and production is already underway. According to Shinbo, the subtitle of the new film is still undecided, but he really wanted to call it "Incubator no Gyakushū"

Sounds like Rebuild of Evangelion to me!

alternate universe (spin-off), perhaps? the only way I could see a sequel is if some majorly outrageous stuff happened. of course, being a movie I'm sure it would anyways.

Spin-off I think would be the best course of action, but I don't know. I thought the Madoka anime did a fine job on it's own and it didn't need anymore added to it, it's like you just had a nice big meal, and you're full but in a good way and anymore would just make you sick.

Probably a "alternate" what-if story.

Recap is just blasphemy for Urobuchi's standard, and a continuation is pretty unlikely.

That part is certainly open for interpretation, but most of the ending were pretty crystal clear, in my opinion. I don't really think the story needs a sequel and it's quite conclusive.

I actually see this as more alike to Rebuild of Evangelion. Remember how we all thought the first 3 movies are just going to be a retelling of the original story with the final one being a new ending? But starting from the second movie, we already completely diverged from the original story. It's pretty much a complete retelling - and I have a feeling that's what this trilogy is going to be.

Yeah, but there was a much longer gap between the original and the rebuild. There was a lot of room for improvement with modern techniques that they took advantage of. That's what made me happy about the rebuild along with the few changes here and there. I doubt the same would happen with Madoka. If it does than slap me silly with a fish.

I hope its a sequel. Though yeah its a real ending, but if they can continue, what's the problem with that? More entertainment for us.

As long as the "retelling" isn't 90%+ the same as the original story then anything is fine, I'd be glad if it was indeed something like Rebuild of Evangelion.

And there i thought the movie is based off the three books

Ive heard about this and im excited, I cant wait to see where they go with the series, the anime left me wanting more.
