Gunbuster and Diebuster are among the most awesome series evar, and Gurren Lagann looks to be just as great once it can get past this director fiasco.
Code Geass is also quite nice, though one might argue that it's diffuse enough in content not to be considered so much a "mecha anime" as a "high-density anime".

Gunbuster was good, have never seen Diebuster but it's on my want to watch list.
If you want GREAT old school I recommend the classics Mazinger Z and VOLTES V...especially Voltes V, an excellent series with a kick ass mech :)

What, nobody mentioned Macross, or to be exactely Macross Frontier while we are talking about these years Mecha ?
Shame over you ^^
Personally i prefer Macross over Gundam. I think that the Macross Universe pretty much had the best OST`s so far, which counts a lot for me. Couldn`t get enough of "Lion".
Gunbusters.... that reminds me, i still have to watch something, damn.

Kaimax
Best Master-San
I watch almost every mech anime, except those with a weird design, biological mecha.
Macross and Gundam are both equal in my eyes.
Gundam wins in the number of series. ( I haven't watch Turn A gundam, and Gundam V)
Yet, Macross wins in soundtrack and the love story.

My Favorite Is Gundam Series (SEED and Newer)...Although Universal Century Gundams are SImply awesome, I can't stand their Old School Artworks...
And...I also got a personal Favorite...
Jinki Extend!
But I prefer the manga best than the ANime...for some obvious reasons...

Gundam Wing's probably my all-time favorite mecha anime. I know a lot of people LOVE Gurren Laggan but I wasn't that fond of it after a certain lead character was randomly killed off in what normally would be a minor injury situation in most animes. I've only seen a little bit of Gunbuster/Diebuster at an anime convention video room once but it looked pretty awesome.

Ell, there's a lot of good mecha anime this year. I have to say my favorite this year was definitely Gundam 00.

My favourite mech anime this year would be Code Geass (as stupid as some of the scenes were) and Macross Frontier (love the songs and the final battle was awesome).

CG had to many holes and two seriously overpowered mechs. G00 is better it that the battles are more exciting but some of the motivations and ideals are shallow. Macross F tops all. Amazing art and action sequences and it doesn't neglect other motives beside the mecha ones.

I especially liked Endless Waltz, the new 0 and Death Scythe Hell were awesome mechs. On an other note a awesome mech manga i realy come to enjoy is Red Eyes by Shindo Jun. It's not your typical 10 story tall dominates everything mech manga. The mech's are more like suits of armour but still bad ass looking. Also it has something i believe alot of mech manga lack in, and thats a good story line and plot.
