[Manga] Shingeki no Kyojin

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Elen and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Elen vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

Nominated for the 4th Manga Taisho Awards (2011).

I've skimmed the raws, from 10 up to chapter 18, at least 9x.

The female protagonist is incredibly awesome though. I don't really like the main character either though, he isn't really a well balanced character. Just bad character writing really.

Never was afraid of giant monster like thingys before, but this manga puts a new twist on it. It is freaky when those giant monsters look like humans and eat people - for fun >.>

Anyone else think that all the females' outfits look like they were inspired in part by Lightning from FFXIII?

i find the art a bit iffy

Yeah, this is why I think more mangaka need to either focus on their writing skills or their artistic skills - not try to do both. This manga would be so much better if the guy just focused on the story and teamed up with a much better artist.

It does have a gritty feel though with the kind of pen style he uses. Still, some frames are just awful.

I love the gritty, messy pencil look.

Reminds me of how Onani Master Kurosawa looked, rough and penciled.

The art is getting a little better. Still looks like a draft and rushed.

I don't think its a time skip. I think its just a change of perspective. They'll go back to Eren next chapter I think...

It's sort of a go back and forth thing.

Twas more of an introduction to Levi, which leads to an alternate occurrence in the same time frame when Ehren was eaten and Mikasa was wiping out giants.
