(Spoiler) What do you think about The Ending of CG R:2

After viewing, I was in the “Lelouche died” camp. We saw the sword pierce his skin, and we saw him die. It seemed sort of straightforward.

But honestly, thinking about it more… Yeah, he’s probably alive. Charles touched him just as he was absorbed by the World of C, making it very likely that the code was transferred, since there is apparently no known way to destroy a code. It may be that Charles strove to touch Lelouch to pass on the curse of Immortality to him as a final revenge, even. Lelouche was able to send Psychic images to Nunnally before he “died” when she touched his hand - the hand being where Charles’ code was located as well.

It would also explain CC’s happiness. She says she’s no longer Solitary. If she could always talk to Marianne, it would seem that she considers talking to the “dead” to be solitude anyway. So that would suggest that their is a flesh and blood Lelouche she is talking to.

It would offer a very interesting counterpoint to Lelouche’s “final” words to Suzaku. Just as he tells Suzaku that he is now cursed to live as Zero and never be Suzaku again, Lelouche himself can never be Lelouche again, since he has sacrificed himself for the sins of the world (Hm, Too bad he didn’t die with his hands outstretched, that would have been perfect), he too can never be Lelouche, thus the veil and shroud.

So as much as I was looking forward to a Kallen/Lelouche ending (Although I very much disliked Kallen in the eps 22-24), it looks like CC/Lelouche won out in a big way: They’ll travel together as Geass-holding Immortals for a long time to come, until Geass itself dies, if it ever can.

So it’s an interesting bittersweet ending. Suzaku gets a strange mix of reward and curse. He still won’t die as he wished, but the person was Suzaku has died, and he will be the Martyr he wished to be as Zero, but a living Martyr.

Lelouche gets to survive, but he is seperated from Nunnally, and the curse of Immortality is now his as well. He and CC will have to live forever, guardians of the Geass, until the Sun goes Nova, the Universe expires to entropy, or whatever Gods may exist in the Geass world trigger the end of all things, perhaps to absorb all into the World of C, perhaps to reveal something even higher than the world of C.

All that said… Seriously, just let me think that Lelouche survived. The Ambiguity is annoying. It wasn’t cool when Anno did it in Eva, and it ain’t cool now.
