The deterioration and unoriginality of a series
0
I'm sure that many of you have noticed many series that turn into complete garbage as the story progresses. This is very recurrent in "shonen" comics. The stories start off fairly unique and the artist isn't afraid to experiment as he/she picks up a growing fanbase. Then, at the peak of their popularity, the DBZ mentality comes in. Suddenly, the main character has unlimited physical capabilities. Everytime an enemy is defeated, a new stronger one is waiting just around the corner. The main character will lose a battle and always come back stronger, and will usually have the ability to emit powerful energy beams/waves. Thus we have the DBZ effect, and almost all shonens end up being rip-offs of each other.
Bleach is a very good illustration of my point. At first it was centered around Ichigo's school life. It had some good humor, and all of the characters were likeable in their own way. Then the rescue Rukia arc began. It was pretty original compared to some other series, even though Ichigo had his "Goku-like" strength increases. And no one can forget the huge Captain Aizen plot-twist. Not long after, two vizards show up(in a very Vegeta and Nappa fashion) and Ichigo is helpless to defend himself. What happens next? Ichigo goes to train of course. He once again manages to increase his "powerlevel" by multiples. *Note that he hasn't even been a soul-reaper for more than a couple of months* Now we have the Heuc Mondo arc(didn't check the spelling). Not only does this arc use the same premise as the Recue Rukia arc, Heco Mundo is just the rescue Orihime arc, it just ends up being another typical shonen manga story arc.
Deterioration and loss of originality is something that happens a lot in the industry. I'm sure you have noticed this before, and in other cases besides my example.

Naruto? XD
Yeah, I hate that. That's why anime with one on one fighting elements to it have turned me off lately...

Bleach. Fucking Bleach. Thank Captain_Falcon for giving me a chance to let out a little rant.
WTF is up with this obvious repetitiveness in story. Sure the bad guys are different and Ichigo has to go and save the fucking day but when the fuck are they gonna put an end to the bullshit. Captain_Falcon uses DBZ to compare Bleach to but I like to think of it like an RPG game fashion. Ichigo goes to the shinigami world to save Rukia, gains a few levels, and then has to face Byakuya in an epic Boss battle. Boom Ichigo gets the fuckin Bankai rapes Byakuya and it's all over. When ichigo goes back to the real world somehow he become a weak motherfucker as if he's been deleveled. Barely defeates a few enemies that were obviously weaker than Byakuya.(Cause this dude don't fuck around) [Skip to the Vaizard shit] Ichigo levels again and attains a new power of badassness. He goes to hueco mundo to save a friend of his (Like I didn't see that coming) and in a final showdown fights another epic boss battle with Grimjaw (Another badass mothefucker) Kicks his ass then goes home. Oh shit whadya kno another problem arises when some girl named Lurichio gets kidnapped and all of a sudden Ichigo deleveled like fuck so he cant go Bankai mode and rape the shit out of the enemy. WTF is with this change in power all of a sudden after beating a "Boss". If Ichigo is badass he needs to fight like a badass all the time. (Like Byakuya, who apparetnly never seems like he is weaker and always battles without fucking around)

Imo Naruto and One Piece is still going strong, Bleach is ok, but after two arc which were practicly the same i've lost interest in the series somewhat.
And im talking about the manga's, the anime-adaptions of all three series is pretty much turds and balls, filler bullshit.

Even so, teh manga itself is still pretty bad. I only read them to past some time, but other than that I don't really like the series.

At least One Piece sort of broke away with that with the Crocodile arc, I mean, Luffy did get his ass beat several times before, and he didn't "power up", he simply used another strategy to defeat Crocodile, although the whole sweating thing was kinda like WTF?

I think this is the biggest problem of any popular Shonen Series. As long as they are not very popular, they are kind of unique. As soon as they get more and more popular, they will also adapt more to mainstream tastes.
Captain_Falcon really has a point when he takes Bleach as example, because, as he said, the series started off in an unique way before going right down to what I call the "Shonen-Mainstream-Hell".

Well, the more prolonged any series gets, be it manga, anime, movies, books, whatever, the more and more it becomes repetitive and stale. (Naruto, Bleach, the usual examples.) Every good book/show has an ending, but some writers just don't get that.

You know what didn't follow this cliche? Double Arts. Why the hell was it discontinued? The worst part is that most of the truly original series never almost never go mainstream like the cliche ones. It's as if the industry itself dicourages originality.

I really never read or watched One Piece since the horrible reviews it got from my friends. But Naruto Manga, I do have to agree it is still going strong. Though it may have the typical DBZ syndrome, it still offers plot twists and the level up process is a bit more origional.

going by personal opinion, the repetitive cycles in series that do this has quite hit the point of no return for me, that being said however, i never bothered with [manga] Naruto, One Piece (won't explain y) I managed to get interested in Bleach somehow, but now, i am just sitting here waiting to see an end that is nowhere in site. As for the anime versions, again i only was able to tolerate Bleach, up until a certain point, again i wait till an end is foreseeable, the only thing that keeps me going is small tidbits of action, and seeing/learning new things (that are plot important thou) and with that said a new zanpakuto release is only cool if, 1-the guy is cool, and 2-the released sword looks badass!(u gotta have both) Trying to keep with originality can always be difficult, sometimes u just wanna play-it-safe and goes with whats worked in the past, despite the response it gets.
K there's my rant, i think this is my first rant on FAKKU

I totally agree. The manga's that actually stray from the mainstream effect and start off with great story's and lovable characters, usually never get past 100 chapters, or maybe even less than 100. For example, Double Arts. Even though the story was original and the characters were fun and exciting, the manga was discontinued at chapter 23. Where there was still much more to add to the story itself and just end at one Arc, making it a much more enjoyable manga to read than Naruto or Bleach. Same thing with Mx0. Although it was a great manga with the potential of being one of the greatest, it ended abruptly at chapter 99 leaving many plot holes in the story.
Ok I'm done. :)

I agree 100%. Both Bleach and Naruto are no longer interesting at all to watch. It just seems like the same stuff over and over again. One Piece I'll admit is still doing well and is the only one I watch with interest, but I feel like its on its way on getting the "DBZ" effect since the creator has stated that he was heavily influence by the Dragon Ball series.

It's had the "DBZ effect" for years, they're fuckin running around in mach 10 speeds and seeing as they automatically level up after each island/arc i don't think it'll be long until they starts busting islands too.
