In the novel, was it still called Endless Eight or under a different title. I'm pretty sure it is a different title because well, they didnt go through it eight times.

Ahhhh, so that just means there was no fucking reason for Kyoto-ani to redo the same episode eight times...fuck.

They were just trying to be clever that's all. Airing the ep 8 times, the ep taking place during the 8th month August, the fact that you can loop and write the number "8" endless amounts of time without having to pick up your writing tool, turning the number "8" sideways makes it the infinity sign, and the most clever of them all. Endless Eight both start with the letter E.
Or more like the author was being clever. KyoAni only did the "airing 8 times" thing to go along with the number "8". Also, I as well watched all of the Endless Eight eps. I watched them just to hear the different "I love you"s that Koizumi says in each ep.

I think making it eight episodes was done so they would still have a complete season but not show anything that was going to be in the movie (which I really need to get around to watching).
If they had made five less episodes, they would have only had nine for the season, which would have been a ridiculous number. And in order for them to not include those five episodes but still have fourteen for the season, they would have had to show stuff that would have been in the movie.

Well, regarding the history of haruhi airing, It doesn't matter which arc is shown actually. Look at the 1st season it's scrambled eggs, yet people still like it anyway. They can just add another story that's not from the movie.
Here's something to add, and it's still in volume 6
-"Snowy Mountain Syndrome"
-"Charmed at First Sight Lover"
-"Where did the Cat Go?"
-"The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina"
But no, they instead wasted 8 episodes for just one Chapter "Endless Eight". Which they can use half of the episodes to animate those chapters that I mentioned above.
The Rampage of Suzumiya Haruhi (Vol. 5) is filled with Short stories...SHORT. They just made 8 episodes from just 30 pages of that chapter.
And 2nd season was mostly a recap season

The Grey Knight :y
It's shit like this that make me avoid this series. And now, I'm conflicted, because I hear The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was an excellent film. :(

Endless eight guide

I ended up watching all 8 while they were airing, it pissed me off at first but if you look at it with an open mind; that sort of frustration, it really puts you into Nagato's mindset, because she had to sit through it thousands of times, I thought the whole idea was unconventional and quirky. It was the very frustration of the endless 8 arc that led Nagato to do what she did in the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya imo.
There are insignificant differences between most episodes, the only difference worth noting is when they actually realise they are trapped in a time loop (this doesn't happen at first iirc). Watch them if you have a lot of time on your hands - want to feel like Yuuki Nagato - and can grasp kyon's random babling about "feeling like setsuna F sei ei".

Oppai Overlord
I only made it through 4 of them. then i skipped to the end. I kept yelling at Kyon. "Do something! If you let her leave this will start all over agian!" and then when he didn't do anything I would say "Dammit! your such a fucking pansy!"
