The perfection of Elves vs the Perfection of vampires

Which do you prefer? In allot of fiction vampires and Elves have the whole "we're better then you" thing going on, many portrayals of how what being a vampire is make is come off as hitting the jackpot, as is the case with Elves. But the question here is however, which do you think tends to pull this off better in anime without coming off as just being arrogant and stuck up; who walks the walk better while being able to talk the talk just as well?

Personally I prefer vampires in this regard. I like Elves, but vampires in general manage to pull off the whole sexiness thing way better.

The only elf I have any familiarity with is Deedlit from Record of Lodoss War, and even then I have only a passing familiarity with her.

On the other hand, I have a slightly more passing familiarity with vampires by virtue of Arcueid Brunestud, Alucard, and Evangeline A.K. McDowell from (respectively) Tsukihime, Hellsing, and Mahou Sensei Negima.

I know next to nothing about Brunestud because I dropped the Tsukihime anime after watching exactly two episodes and declaring it to be a pile of crap.

Alucard I am slightly more familiar with and gets major badass points for being completely immortal in nearly every sense of the word, not to mention one of anime's greatest anti-heroes.

Eva, on the other hand, I am very familiar with; she displays many of the classic vampire characteristics but seems to be old enough to be able to ignore most of the drawbacks like weakness to daylight. She possesses immense magical power and her only real failing is the curse that binds her to the Mahora Academy campus. She also has Alucard's infamous regeneration qualities.

So it's vampires for me.

Vampires are way too overdone in anime. Elves can get too arrogant, but there is also a reasonable portrayal of elves as a wise sort of elder race. Vampires appear all the time and are all over the place, in terms of all characteristics.

And your point is? That doesn't have anything to do with "who walks the walk better while being able to talk the talk just as well". Eva and Alucard are every bit as badass and uber-powerful as a vampire should be, if not a great deal more.

I personally like elves better, since I'm not into the whole gothic look that a lot of vampires have going on. Also, not a fan of fangs, which vampires are supposed to have.

The point was more that it's impossible to make such generalizations about vampires cause they are all over the place. From my experience though, the huge amount of warping the the original vampire mythology has undergone from anime hasn't been a positive development overall.

Both can pull of the sexy factor and the bad ass factor. But really if you put them in a fight my money is on the vampire. I don't care if vampires are over done. Its my opinion and I'm saying it. Vampires are all over the place and are hard to generalize into what they really are. Elves compared to vampires elves are more stable and don't change much, in terms of what they do. Still vampires can pwn it up hard. So in the end vampires can talk the talk and walk the walk.

Vampires all the way, because Tsukihime, save for the anime, is exceptional, especially the manga. Arcueid Brunestud - Vampire Moe. Plus, vampires are both good and bad without being too arrogant over their (supposed) superiority. This was exemplified in the anime Tsukuyomi Moonphase as the main vampire characters grew to side with humans thus accepting themselves as equals without denying their superiority. Also, Arcueid Brunestud is mai waifu. So there you go.

Yeah, going to go with vampires too. For me, whether it be anime or live action, vampires have a certain allure to them. Or maybe it's because I watch too much Buffy/Angel, lol.

To go ever-so-slightly off topic, this trend is reflected in their non-anime counterparts. Look at Tolkein's elves versus Ann Rice's vampires; the elves are washed-up has-beens who do next to nothing in the War of the Ring besides run off to their shores of eventide or whatever it was.

Rice's vampires, on the other hand, not only live up to what you'd think a vampire to be, they all but created the stereotype of the undead watchers lurking in the shadows of society, watching mankind grow and evolve as the centuries pass.

You're absolutely right. In my opinion, the whole darkness theme has been overdone and dragged through the dirt. Its a nice reflection on the times and the world we live in right? Well anyway, elves are a race of their own. They exist and tend to be quite knowledgeable in a vast majority of their portrayals.

Vampires, even though they're cool, have a lot of faults. The fact of the matter is that vampires aren't a race or a species, they're a disease ridden portion of humankind. They claim to be superior due to certain elevated human abilities, but are they really? In many cases, humans are compensated naturally, when a disease denies them proper function in another natural faculty of the human body. Humans that are infected by vampirism, have heightened abilities, but that just means that they're naturally compensated for their deficiencies as humans with a disease.

Vampires for me. I don't like elven ears, I don't like their arrogance, I don't like the fact that elven men all weaklings(well, almost all). Vampires are much cooler. Alucard is invincible, Arcueid is beautiful. What else do you need?

I am neutral between both choices. Both vampires and elves get protrayed differently from their own kind, depending on the series they are featured in.

The arrogance in elves may not appear in some charactgers, while the gothic look of vampires does not apply to all of them too. Examples include the female elf with big boobs from Zero no Tsukaima II and Moka (before transformation) from Rosario + Vampire.

I love elves but vampires are like the definition of seduction.
