the mere premise of the story will keep me interested, but killer loli's will help me enjoy it more ^_^

Typical as the story may seem and from the creators of the Higurashi (When they Cry) series, I just love watching horror and mystery themed shows even if I don't really believe in cases as such. If anything else, the "killings" should prove to be more than enough for me to enjoy this! Hopefully, it wouldn't be just another Higurashi... I pray to God it won't be!

Yeah, I'll be looking forward to this since I loved the Higurashi series (Yet to watch Rei though). Seeing as how it's a different setting, it'll be interesting how this'll play out.

It is on my MAL list of things to be watched. I'm looking forward to it. I really loved Higurashi. Odd thing is I can't really explain why. There was just something about it that kept me coming back for more, and I'm hoping Umineko will have the same effect.

I... just... can't expect too much from this. I played the four games and I just can't see how they will put such amounts of information in a single season without rushing things. Well, I have to admit I can't wait to see particular scenes animated, but I know that overall I won't be satisfied. Same goes for the chara-design, all the characters lost half their weight in the anime, this is just not right. Also Battler is supposed to look more like a young and strong adult rather than a skinny fifteen-years-old teenager! D:
Well, for now I'll just my mouth and watch. I might be surprised, but once again I don't carry much hope in this animation. Also, small bombs.
/e: also, no, this is not another Higurashi. Sure, there are many similarities and a few connections - but that's as far as it goes.

The anime aired a few hours ago in Japan. You can watch both the opening and the ending on youtube. Both videos have been removed from youtube, sorry for that. :V (The RAW of the episode is available on tokyotosho, though.)
The opening is quite good, but the ending is a bit disappointing, a bit too static given the music that plays. Waiting for the subs, now...

Don't go in expecting another Higurashi, Ryukishi himself has said that Umineko will mess with those who've seen Higurashi and think they've got things figured out already,

I for one never really liked Higurashi's plot to begin with. That's why I've been looking forward to this, being better in every single aspect, and judging from the first episode that I've just seen, it certainly is... thus far.
The thing that I also appreciate a lot is the VA cast. That's already too much of a plus! Daisuke Ono as Battler, Marina Inoue as Jessica, Yui Horie as Maria, Kenichi Suzumura as George, and even Rie Kugimiya and Yu Kobayashi playing as Shannon and Kanon respectively. I'm honestly in awe, as in awesome cast. 8)
I'm raring to see more! We'll see if this series truly has got what it takes to fuck with me; something that its predecessor failed to do.

After 3 episodes, I'm officially declaring that Maria is the most annoying character in this series and that I wish to see her die no fucking matter what. In addition, Battler posing as "the detective" of sort could also prove to be quite annoying at times but since he's the fucking lead, I can live with that. (but of course, not without him dying in the end as well... hahaha)
If there's one thing that really bothers me aside from the mysterious chain of murders, how can these people not notice the drastic change in Maria's character?! How absurd to leave the reasoning behind it up to witchcraft, hypnotism, or any other forms of extraordinary prowess...

I agree that Maria is annoying as hell, but not enough to make me drop the show.
BTW Kanon is adorable and can't wait for him to be the hero of the story, single handedly saving everyone from Beatrice with his stupid beret.

Got some issues with ep 3 as well.
The disturbing ass loli aside (I'm guessing being versed in biblical and occult knowledge and complete obliviousness to family members getting slaughtered was a common thing for 9-year olds in those times) the overall cast quality suffered a serious blow as well.
First of all the follow-up form episode 2 felt surreal. The people find 6 bodies and still decide to focus most of their attention on comforting whatshisname that his future bride must have been happy before having her face removed. Guess a good maid was praised higher than your parents and close relatives... Battler was silly as well with how quickly he adapted to the tragedy and shifted to Holmes-mode.
The pace in which we're losing characters is troubling as well. I was really hoping on exploring some of those people and introducing some character complexity but they're dying before you even memorie their damn names (ep 3 killed off one of the most promising ones for me).
I'm still enjoying the show (watching in the middle of the night using headphones helps) but I'd really appreciate if it'd skip on weird face closeups and focus on some character buildup instead.

I'm in agreement of what Das said. Thus is why it's inevitable for this and the Higurashi series to be set apart from one another.
I would like to think that the necessary buildup shall be implemented during the latter parts as the mysteries get solved one by one in forms of flash blacks, more or less similar to Higurashi's style in more ways than one. If its titling (I-I, I-II, I-III) would imply anything, it definitely has got something to do with the order of things. As far as I'm concerned, the first three episodes as part of the first verse(volume, chapter, or whatever you wanna call it) which I'd refer to as the "Blind Spot" verse, was intentionally directed to look, sound, feel, smell, taste, seem that way from the viewers' perspective.
Even though I had seen it coming early on, I do share the same pain.
In my case, I watch it late at night without a care if anyone else outside the house could actually listen-in to it. Atm, my primary joy is set on figuring out who's gonna die next halfway through each episodes and seeing their corpses afterwards, to prove my guesses right.
As for the closeups, instead of wasting it on Battler and Maria's stupid mugs, they'd be better off using it on the more brutally murdered characters and maybe on Jessica's certain anatomy parts.
Before I forget that aside from the family's awfully fast and ludicrous coping recovery rate, did anyone else find that old hag's laughter, in the part where they were discussing about Beatrice's existence, disturbing? I can't tell if they're trying to make us believe all of these stuff as a part of the entire crazy and bizarre shit that's been happening but I still find it odd and very awkward. Actually, that entire scene became even more of a nuisance when Maria entered the picture. (fucking loli who wants to be the center of attraction vs Battler and his silly deductions, who is in fact just another attention whore)
