Hi all, I stumbled across this yesterday and thought it was pretty cool. I didn't see any mention of it here on Fakku, so I figured I'd go ahead and give anyone who might be interested a heads up.
It looks like they're trying to fund a single 24min episode that will be used to pitch a possible trilogy of movies or more OVAs.

It only has 3 days left, but are getting close to their whopping 590k goal. It seems a bit pricey to me, but I really like the idea of supporting something that might spark some motivation for new creativity in the anime industry......that, and I liked the trailer, lol.

From what I observed, the high price tag is the thing most people are turned off by. I also think that 590k is just way above the need for the prodcution of a single episode (yes, the set stretch goal is only for a single episode). If I know my numbers correctly - which I might not - production costs for a single 24 minute anime episode average out on about 150k to 200k, so even if you double the budget for that to spice up your animation, how do you justify the remaining nearly 200k?
I think that, and the fact that you won't even get a BD unless you pay 100$, is where most potential backers are put off by, and I really can't blame them. Because it's just an awful lot of money not everyone can just throw into something to speculative.
The idea itself is great but I think they just set their bar a bit too high.

Now, while percentages are good, perhaps what is not as apparent are the actual costs of things given the $580,000 budget we are going for with this KS.
$580,000 - Total - Broken down as follows:

$232,000 - 40% - Animation Production - This is the budget for the actual design, direction, and animation of said 24 mins. Note the project will actually cost closer to $350,000.
$174,000 - 30% - Backer Rewards - Budget for reward production, warehousing, shipping, etc.
$87,000 - 15% - Pre-Production - Money we would like to recoup from investing our own funds in the trailer (of which we have actually spent in excess of $100,000)
$29,000 - 5% - Operational Costs - Budget for operational costs such as daily staff, web hosting, paying bills, etc.
$29,000 - 5% - KS fees - KS levies fees for all KS campaigns. They need to make their money too
$29,000 - 5% - Amazon Credit Card fees - The fees from Amazon Payments
