[General] War based Anime?

I am looking for a good war based anime. Time period doesnt matter to me, but I'm not a big fan of Mecha. Here are some anime I liked that had a war theme to it.
I liked Valkyria Chronicles, Last Exile & Claymore :)

Anything war like outside mechs is kinda hard. I might no of some but war isn't as a big focus in these, but still there. (though I may not have finished all of these)

-hard to say since I only watched 2 eps, before stalling.

2281Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta though haven't watched it

I'd definitely have to second Oda Nobuna...I do love it, but some friends dropped it because they were lost due to their lack of knowledge concerning who the Mino Triumvirate were.
