Although not as widely acclaimed as compared to "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and "Summer Wars", "Yona Yona Penguin" is another production by Madhouse, albeit in 3D format this time round.
I have heard word that the above anime(?) movie has started its run at the local movie theatres. However, due to the fact that I have yet to watch it, I am only able to provide a summarized storyline, based on various sources found throughout the internet.
Coco, appears to be an adventurous but friendless little girl, who loves all kinds of penguins and wanders about her town every night, in a special penguin costume left behind by her father. One night, she meets a goblin, who subsequently brings her to its world, where it is prophesized that a flightless bird will save everyone from destruction.
From the storyline, one can easily tell that the movie is targeted towards children; the runtime of 90 minutes or so is another dead giveaway. However, both the extremely cute animation and catchy theme song has caught my attention. Besides, who doesn't love penguins, especially when they resemble prinnies... dood?
Like most anime films, Yona Yona Penguin may not be screened in certain countries. However, if you do get a chance to watch said movie, I am quite sure it will make you go "Kawaii~~~". Rest assured I will either be heading down to my local movie theatre or purchasing the DVD, maybe even both.
