Book Series Requirements

Hey everyone, new here but a longtime Fakku follower from before and now testing my new account. A question that I've had for a long time now though is regarding some of larger series with multiple chapters that I've been noticing. Many of which I believe have full tankbouns available in Japan that would meet the Book tag category. And yet they've continued to remain in separate chapters that must be purchased individually. From a completionist perspective (who likes everything consolidated in one place if possible) and from an economic interest (more pages for my purchase) I've been curious as to what exactly warrants a series making it into completed book form exactly and if there are any plans to do so for some of the series/collections currently available at some point?

I think you may have doujinshi and books mixed up. Could you give me an example of chapters of something sold separately?
Books (tankoubons) are compiled chapters an artist has completed in a serialized magazine, a lot of times from the very magazines that are on our subscription service. The artists will go back and retouch, add extra bonuses in, and it's an opportunity for fans to support the artist.
A lot of artists also work on independent projects (or with another artist in collaboration) called doujinshi which are self published titles. They're single issue comics that they sell in a smaller print run and sold at comic conventions like Comiket in Japan by them directly. They print these themselves, they're not serialized in any magazine and have not gone through any type of editorial department. So everything goes in a doujinshi and all done by the artist themselves.
Sometimes an artist decides to do an ongoing series with their doujinshi and each issue is sold whenever they get a new one finished. Sometimes artists who do these doujinshi get a really big following behind it and they'll eventually do an omnibus of the chapters - kinda like Butcha-U did with his Pooters series. But most of the time the artist will just keep these as single issues because it's just a personal project of theirs.

Well I'm talking about full multi-chaptered series collections, an example being Tachibana Omina's Tales of a Harem in Another World. I know that series came out with its first omnibus which includes its first three chapters plus extra shorts sometime last year in Japan. It would be my preference to get those first few chapters of that series in the omnibus form if at all possible, and my uncertainty as to whether that will ever happen in the future with Fakku makes me hesitate in buying any individual chapters for a series. So I'd simply like to understand the process in determining which series will see their omnibus forms brought over, if at all, before I rush into any decisions with a purchase is all.

Isekai Harem Monogatari is still only doujin and has no tankobon. Yukemuri Harem Monogatari aka the onsen harem story is a full tankobon, Two different stories.

Sooo things like this aren't official releases in volume form is what you're saying? Because I'm confused since it comes with like the first 3 chapters plus shorts of the series at a total of 178 pages in its product description. Melonbooks
If that's the case then I would like some clarification in that if it does come out in an official tankboun form can and will fakku bring that version over, since you already have the series/chapters here anyway, or is that something you also have to negotiate and it's up in the air?

Yeah that’s still a doujin and not an actual tankoubon. Often times artists will sell collections of their older works in omnibus format at doujinshi events. And since these works are made available in English by Irodori and are just being sold through Fakku, likelyhood of Fakku selling it as a book release is extremely unlikely.

Book tag here is only for the tankobons we sell, not in general. Tankobons are commercial made graphic novels. Doujins are fan made/ group made and aren;t apart of a publisher in general. Think fanfiction vs a novel or webtoon to a manga. It even says it on the melonbook page you linked. イベント コミティア128-Event: COMITIA 128. That's a doujinshi con. Like Comiket. Now it is a condensed book but it;s still a doujin because it artist/group printed. https://www.doujinshi.org/book/1671254/

Are you talking about just the doujin versions or is that including official tankoubon's too? Because I've seen full tankoubon releases alongside the individual chapters being sold here together before, like MEME50's Brush or Heat series or the 10,000 BC series for example. So I guess my last question would be then is if a tankoubon version did come out for a series already here on Fakku is that automatically imported as well or is it again a negotiation with the publishers and up in the air? I mostly just want to know if I should wait in expectation of books in the future for certain multi-chapter series already on site or not is all. Thanks if anyone can clarify :D

Well two answers. If they come out on one of the magazines we have in the subscription then they stay available to subscribers. Now after the chapters get included into an official Japanese tankobon and the site picks it up then the book chapters get slowly release fir thise who preordered into it done and we get a do link.
That was the case for Drawn by Brush and a few other books as a whole or part. There's two different versions of brush chapters. One from Comic Shitsurakuten and one from the book.
The books fakku chooses to print are up to them. There's chapters that are now in books that we haven't print yet. The site actually can print from a bunch of publishers library since they own the licensing library for wani... I think they also need the artist to allow it too. Also they have agreements with other publishers but I think that for certain artists and not the whole book catalog.

So that's basically automatic in terms of the chapter substitutions with the book versions? But my question is regarding just reading the omnibus format specifically, which is also digital as well if I'm not mistaken. I generally prefer a one time purchase of and to read all or many chapters condensed together within whenever possible. If an omnibus version is out there, then my concern is whether I should wait or expect it to show up on the site at some point and hold off on purchasing individual chapters. I mean I don't have a problem with rolling the dice on oneshot magazine stories that may never see book form etc but when I see a multi-chapter story arc collections I'm hesitant to start it up out of an expectation a tankboun version will or has come out and make the chapter purchase redundant should it show up on the site later in an omnibus.
Basically all I really want to know is whether or not when an omnibus/tankboun exists or will exist for a series here is that version expected to be near automatically added (in digital format at least) as well or is it totally up in the air and fakku's discretion and I should have no expectations?

There's an omnibus version in japan yes. Will we get it... you have to ask Irodori Comics since they're the English publisher. We only carry it on the store because they use us as a seller. The only time an English publisher get those type of collections is only when they require that version license from the circle or the book is collect offically into a commerical tankonom like Futabu was. If i was gonna bet i don;t think that gonna happen. There's a lot of collections books that never get picked up. A few get official releases like Osana Hime Kankan, Egao Kankan, and the eventual TSFAppend. Very few doujinshi circle made tankobons get licensed out of japan. I only know of two that aren't actual commerical bought collections.

Okay, thank you for clarifying. I'll buy chapters at my own discretion from now on and reframe from holding out hope for Omnibus versions that may or may not appear. Much appreciated for clearing up the uncertainty on the matter, now I can get to reading :D

For what is worth, some of the doujins here like Shindou's Mating With Oni series and Narusawa Kei's Tropical Island series do have Japanese tankoubon releases by GOT. However, the individual doujin chapters here are translated and sold by 3rd party publishers, whom I guess have directly contracted with the artists instead of GOT. It is unclear if those would ever get released here.

What you mentioned about Tachibana Omina's Japanese release is a soushuuhen -- still a doujinshi. I think those extra chapters in the soushuuhen for this particular series are also available here.
