Older out-of-print titles getting reprinted or lost to time?
1
Hi there, I was wondering if some of the older titles which remain out of print could see a reprint at any point in the future? In these cases, does it come down to demand for the product (in which case I assume pre-orders might bring some back?) or is it simply an expiration of a license which means there isn't much sense in renewal or even artists which won't renew?
I know obviously you're not at liberty to say which artists and books would fall under which category, but would there be some way of resurrecting some dormant titles from the dead for even a limited reprint?
Thanks for bringing so many talented artists and great stories to print in all such vivid detail and great quality!

Read the reprint thread I have read that, hence the questions I asked being ones that weren't answered in that thread.

Which books haven't had a reprint?

One example that comes to mind is "Does This Strange Body Please You?" by Z-ton, I've been trying to get a copy for a centaur fan for Christmas, others such as "Fresh Pudding" by Isao just aren't available anywhere and don't seem to have been reprinted in a long time.

I would've hoped Fresh Pudding would have been reprinted recently but it looks to have been skipped over for books that came after. That said, considering the next batch of reprints has some of the oldest; Kira-Kira, Peachy-butt Girls and Love-Ridden, I would hope it'll be in the batch after that. No idea on Z-ton's book though, I'd imagine that's going to be well into next year, maybe even longer before a reprint.

I remember it being stated in another thread that at some point some older books would no longer get reprints, but in this case we would be informed in time. No need to panic yet, I'd say.

Yep, this is why I thought my question made sense, if it is a licensing issue that's one thing, but if it's a demand issue then that can be simply be addressed through pre-order and community votes on what we'd like to see up for reprint as a priority.
After all, 2015 is a long time ago and many people either simply didn't have access to these books in their local domestic market, weren't aware of the physical print items or just weren't around for them at the time!
Either way, if the Fakku staff could address this in their main post about it or post here, I think it's a question of which a lot of people would benefit from an answer.

When it comes down to it, quite often older titles had taken a back seat to reprints simply because of lack of man power. I used to be a letterer myself and stepped into the role of management of book production in 2017. We had grown quite a bit since we were strained with resources to properly get older titles redone to fit our current house style, and errors that may have needed to be fixed. I'll admit and have mentioned in past year recaps that we've failed to keep up with reprints during that time frame. Then we had COVID hit us which made things very difficult as well. This year I think we've done a good job focusing energy towards getting titles reprinted (and still are getting reprinted). We have our store issue now that we're currently dealing with, and while we slowed down a little, we're still currently reprinting titles that are simply moving units. That's how titles are being chosen to be reprinted - the demand of them.
Also, Z-Ton is a bit of a hairy situation, as we've commented before about GOT, our agreements have changed and we're no longer able to publish uncensored books from them. So we would need to be able to work out an agreement to get the title reprinted again, but is unlikely since it would be uncensored. Every book we reprint we have to get contracts made, agreements made (so that artists can get paid), work changed on it, and if there's a title where units are selling very fast, we're going to move that up in queue to reprint to meet the demand of it. (Hence why Metamorphosis has gotten 2 reprints this year)
I hope this answers your question! I'm sorry if it's not exactly what you want to hear

Thanks for the reply, it's good to have the clarification at the very least as it definitely does stop people holding out for reprints which may never happen.

We'll have our very own Fakku Vault for people to know what titles have been retired.

Thanks for informing us.
I truly hope you manage to get title "Does This Strange Body Please You?" back to the printing again, as this is one of the most title I want in my collection, as I can imagine is for many other based on the poll which genre people wanted to see more of.
