A new rule to the VN uploads section.
Should we allow officially licensed VNs in the uploads?
0
I propose that we make it a rule that VNs that are officially licensed (example: Jast and Mangagamers) should be banned from being uploaded to the VN upload section. The reasoning behind this proposal is that having these uploads on Fakku might be negatively affecting the sales of these games from sites like Jast and Magagamers. I believe that we can help drive up sales of these officially licensed VNs, even if it's by a little, by not allowing them to be here.
Companies like mangagamers and Jast are trying with little effect to enter into the Japanese world of VNs and let us become a part of it. Sadly, most publishers won't give them the rights to do very many big name VNs for a fear that the sales they would get from the English localized versions won't cover the cost of making it in the first place. That is why we get stuck with a lot of official English VNs that are eroge only with no plot. And, as in the case of Koihime Musou, be released with no voices because they fear the sales won't cover the actors fees.
I'm not saying that Fakku not allowing these things will majorly affect these companies and sales will sky rocket because of it, but I do believe it will help, if only a little.
I love VNs and I think that if we can help a little by doing this, then why shouldn't we. A little can go a long way.
I'd like to hear the reason for what you voted. Please make a comment on the issue.

I'm going to vote yes. It was tried with Koihime Musou, and even the extra incentive of getting a voice patch if there are enough sales did not help them reach the goal. People who'd buy the VN will still do so even if it is uploaded here, maybe even more likely since they've actually had the chance to try it. People who don't want to buy it will find another place for downloading it anyway.
Personally, I wish I had the money to buy most of what I've read/played, but that's not really going to happen anytime soon. Will definitely get ef once it's released in English, though, whether it's uploaded here or not. Even though I've already played through NNL's original fan release.

I'm a dirty pirate in this regard, but I support this. Plus they appear here later than in other places anyway, so I see it as more of an extra way to protect oneself from legal trouble.
Imo, the games need more publicity. Right now it's more like being advertised specifically to a market that is a niche already. Can't see that changing easily, given the knee-jerk reactions ppl get with anything related to sex (at least publicly).

Okay, i'll vote and give my opinion here honestly
1. By buying their products legally (not downloading) we're indirectly supporting them to translate more VNs (to gain profit) and in that way, we also get alot of new VNs translated (win for them win for us)
2. And by keep downloading their games freely, it will decrease their income and it might become possible that they need to stop translating all together (if the translator's hired, and they're on deficit what can we say?)
I do enjoy free VN's but what's the bad point on buying originals JP VN or the translated english VN legally? most are cheap and most likely you can buy it with your 1~2 days allowance (well if you're poor, a week of saving can net you one)
i'm pretty much neutral on this since i buy original VN (JP)
DAT EXTRA MATERIAL and displayable box on my shelf <3
but i'm still leaning on the "ban" option just to make companies like mangagamers and jast profit more and be able to give us more VN

I don't think your proposition would accomplish anything. I doesnt even take 2 minutes fo find Download Links for every translated VN out there. As long as thats the case banning on just one Webpage is futile.

I voted no.
My main reason is the same as Animeholic. These companies aren't that big and we can at least try to help them a little bit. It's true that the difference may be close to zero because the main problem here is the mentality of people (some just download if they can buy it or not; others download and if they like it, they buy it) but still, this is one of the best ways to help these companies. Even if by a little research we are able to find download links, FAKKU could try to show some support for the localization of Visual Novels by doing this.
If we buy a officially released game, we will be helping and encouraging not only the company that localized the Visual Novel, but also the company that produced it.

I'm going to vote no. My reasoning being that yes, you can find these VNs elsewhere if you really want to, but why not encourage the people that download from this site to at least consider the people that put forth their hard work, effort and time?
They deserve to be paid for their hard work, and we should at least consider reminding users that there are people out there just like them, who are trying to make a living providing a service that they want. We can at least do our best to support them by linking the companies webpage with any uploads of their products. Those who want to buy the real thing will be able to quickly find the right people to take their money.
TL;DR I'd prefer if they weren't uploaded, but if they have to be, at least enforce linking to the page where anyone who wants to can purchase them.

i voted yes because i don't really have the money to buy any VNs since no local store sell them here so i can only buy off ebay but that would include shipping which is a bit too much....
but even if this gets approved(banning those VNs) i'll just google search them and within 1 min a download from another site will have started so it won't make any difference...

Right now it's a recommendation, not a rule.

1. Depends, depends.
2. Not really. If you like the work, you will buy it.
Finally, discs corrupt sooner or later, so dl is the way to go.

Even if fakku doesn't have the links, other sites will. In that aspect, fakku will shrink if this prolongs. Might as well have the links to attract people.

Great idea, problem being peoples' mentality of wanting free stuff. So your idea is kind of invalid.

Looking at the picture makes me want to say no, and I am not really sure whether I'll vote yes or no.
I do want to support the company, and I will buy the real copy of it if I can find one.
But I don't think it's a bad idea to upload a licensed VN here at Fakku.
Well, there will be leechers who take advantage of it, but to compare with the amount of people here at Fakku who will buy the real copy, I'm sure it will be just fine to upload it.
I can assure you though I will buy the real copy if they have it in my city.

It might "shrink" a little but that's not the point here. Besides, I don't think that this implementation would have that much of an impact here because there are MUCH other things here like manga and visual novels that are not licensed.
The majority of the lurkers should still be around even if this happens.

Even though I vote no, its not really going to help JAst, Mangagamers etc. greatly considering the thing called internet has multiple ways of getting those VN's for free, with or without Fakku's help.

rofl the fact that despite the overhelming "No"-responses in this thread more people voted for "yes" is quite amusing. Or rather sad.

Yeah, I'm going to be voting for Yes. Why? Because I feel it's the responsibility of the gamers in question to show their support for the companies. Example, I downloaded a visual novel. I liked it and started to search for ways to purchase it. I took up that responsibility myself, but got to that responsibility because Fakku provided me the means to access that route (Yes, VN talk xD)
By not allowing them on here the only thing you'll achieve is that people search for other ways. I prefer encouraging people buy the visual novels in question to support the companies, rather than block their path and say deal with it.
But that's just silly ol' me, mind you ^^

I would vote yes.
Mainly because it damn ass hard to get a copy. Japan limits their VN's sales to their own country. Companies that sell the translated ones, does not exactly have a convenient service of delivery. Even accessing their website proof to be one hell of a tough thing to do. If they improve their ease of access and attainability then I would have voted no.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that JAST doesn't deliver to Malaysia(my country). FFFFFFUUUUUUU
