A new rule to the VN uploads section.
Should we allow officially licensed VNs in the uploads?

I voted yes since I firmly believe that people who would buy the vns would do so regardless of this ban. I also agree with the no ban = more exposure argument. Some games don't come with playable demos so being able to try the game out is always a plus. That would let the people who are on the fence on purchasing it, or people who just don't know enough about the game, get a feel for it, and then make an informed decision on whether to buy the game or not.
Also I know this is just me being very petty but when I hear we have to support the companies for their hard work, it brings to mind how they license various visual novels that are already being translated on sites such as tlwiki which then delays the release for a good amount of time. This especially hurts when they license close to complete translations/patches such as Osadai, School Days and Kara no Shoujo. I know it's standard business practice and I'm not insinuating that they don't do a good job with their releases but this irks me nonetheless. This is especially when I hear about people who actually bought the original Japanese version in prep for the patch release. All in all, I'd have to say that if this is about bringing more vns to the English speaking audience then wouldn't it be better if they target vns that aren't currently being translated?

True dat. I was really pissed when JAST went and "licensed" Osadai when the translation was almost done with only editing left.

Meh i don't play enough to care for the translated or legal copy anyways. Even if jacob bans all legal products here... doesn't matter. There other route to the game. Plus is would drive up sales to the game anyways... a few weebs may dl the legal copy or order the box... still the majority will steal and copy.

Id say yes to all the download only visual novels, i bought Aselia, even after having played the game because there was a physical copy of it, i simply wont pay for any sort of media i cant hold myself. One of the reasons i mostly ignore Mangagamer.
Then again, i doubt taking them out will do anything, i mean, theres many other alternatives for Fakku as far as getting stuff is concerned unfortunately, and most of that is due to the games they choose to localize.

A noble thought, but banning official releases would be like adding a drop of water on a hot plate. The drop will sizzle a bit and then it's gone. Same will happen here. Some will rage, some will make it their central dogma, some will ragequit, some will QQ,... but in a few months (or less) they will forget and just move on with or without fakku.
What I personally do is playtest games. I pirate games that seems interesting, then if it is worth the money, I'll buy it. This came about because I have been disappointed a few times with games. Buying them because of good reviews or uplifting game-play footage and trailers, only to discover that what they have advertised or shown has been the best and the rest of the content was below average to total crap.
I don't know if anyone would even read this block of text, but these are my personal feelings and how I go about with products/games/movies/visual novels/anime/manga. Though movies are a bit different, because I would go to the cinema if I like or want to support anything( movie dvd's only support the distributors, not the makers, or so I heard, not talking about anime or manga^_^. If it's good then it's instabuy).
short version: me pirate, me likey me buy. Tha interwebz is biiiiiig... ^_^

Discussion of them is fine, but uploading? No.
Why?
First, illegal is illegal.
Second, if you really like the game(s), get it from the company offering it and pay for what you enjoy.
Third? If it's one Fakku sells in the new store, all the more reason: help the site survive and serve as an exemplary community of users who want to let the newly-emerging English VN market thrive!

I vote yes. The reason? I would buy them if I could, but I do not have a way to buy them online. If someone could tell me of a store that sold them in Oklahoma City or somewhere relatively close, I would say go for it but otherwise I'm completely cut off

I voted that they should be allowed to be uploaded.
You seem to assume that a download means a lost sale. You also seem to assume that the person who downloaded the VN wouldn't go and buy it later because they liked it enough. Some people do this some people don't. Most if not all people in this day and age on the internet will just skip over something if they can't try it out first for free and then determine if it was worth their money.
Your plan in all honestly kills the industry even further. I'm not spending a $30 on a VN I might not like. The world isn't "buy and try" anymore its "try and buy".
Besides, if someone can't get it here then they will just go elsewhere to find it. Not helping the situation at all.
Side note: Sitting next to my copy of fate/stay night that I downloaded first.

on officially released VNs,erogedownload put links of their respective sites and recommend to buy them if you liked them.I think we should just do the same thing here.

I would vote yes because me for example I buy VN's because I wanna collect them for myself but then again I would never have found out about VN's if there wasn't anything posted in Fakku. I would continue to buy them but I still prefer to have some kind of reference before doing so because they're pretty expensive for somebody who is in college and doesn't have a job..

I vote yes and will keep reason simple.. its like having a digital copy i want to have the hard copy if i like it.

If there was a vote for unsure, I'd click on that. Seeing all these reasons for yes and no's just have me grasping my head in annoyance.
Hell, make a two to three month delay of uploading licensed VNs for all I care. People will rage, argue, beg, go to another site that will have it...whatever you can think of it, it will likely happen.
After all...on the Internet, basically anything goes. The only limits I can see so far are your own morals and if people can actually find you to arrest/kill/do whatever they want with you.

I voted for yes,as many people have stated, i would like to try than buy. Recently bought a game because of good reviews and trailers, but when i played it, didn't even play for an hour.

I vote yes and i think most of the people in Malaysia that play VN also think the same as me , here don't have any shop to buy for it , and its to expensive to buy it nor any detail or poster for it, only regular game like playstation , normal manga and every thing is ok if there is no SEX for it because in malaysia , the rule is NO SEX VIDEO , NO SEX GAME AND NO SEX bla bla bla , because malaysia is a country for muslim , F**k YOU MALAYSIA GOVERNMENT and that word (F**K) in the movie also sound like this 'BEEP'

I believe, everyone who visit Fakku and take an interest in buying these games prefer to try playing the games first and only when we enjoy them that we buy them.
After all, only the ones who truly loves VN do buy them... Is there anyone in this thread who prefers buying the game first before playing them?
Thus, I feel certain that removing their games here could end up negatively instead...

How can I check whether a VN is officially licensed or not?VNDB
You can check who released the english version there.

Well I voted yes for two main reasons.
1)I'm a poor bastard, if i bought everything I pirated I would be left with an empty fridge.
2)I like to think downloads are a way of test running VNs, sure they have demos for that but I don't think the demos go far enough. If I like the test run I put the VN on my buy list, if I don't like it they aren't getting my money, period.

I voted yes. My reason is the same as Sindalf's:
I'm not going to spend 100$ dollars on a game I might not even like. If do I download it and enjoy it, chances are I will make plans to buy it in the future. Besides, even if Fakku does implement this rule people will just get them from another source, so what's the point?

I know I posted already, but I'd say "no" to linking/hosting officially owned VNs because it's just one more thing preventing Fakku from being a respectable VN source for purchase and discussion.
Encouraging (or turning a blind eye to) illegal downloads of VNs is akin to illegal distribution of hentai/anime, which Fakku already prohibits on the forums meant for it.
(Yes, Fakku DOES host 'gray area' manga in terms of translated material, but as many of the artists do not publish in other languages, it's a tough call.
Already, F! has prohibited works by certain authors at their/their publishers' requests, such as LINDA.)
