[Locked] Changes to Fakku - First and Final thoughts and feedback
-1
With the recent changes to fakku going, for want of a better word, "official", I thought I'd share my personal feelings on the matter, as I believe feedback is the key to improving all things.
Now, I personally have no issue with the path Fakku is trying to take, I recognise the damage piracy can cause and I respect the choice to support the original content creators and take the legal path. I am aware of the difficulty in bringing japanese anime and manga, and by extension, hentai, into the western world, due to the misguided perception within the industry that there is no valuable market outside of Japan. When this is the case, it falls upon piracy to prove that there is such a market, and having done so, move on to legal provision of content, and this is where Fakku is at now, both in its own right and as part of an increasing realization by the japanese anime/manga industry that there's value in venturing outside its own boarders. And part of me is glad to see such trends.
However, I have issues with the consequences of these changes to fakku, and I believe many users share these gripes. My foremost concern is the removal of content which has been labeled 'controversial', and this is a concern shared by many. And it should be a concern to the site as well. Subscriptions and payment will of course drive some people away, but what people are really looking for in a site like this is that it has everything they want in one place. The reason many people don't use crunchyroll, myself included, is not the fee but the catalog. Cruchyroll has a lot of anime, but there's a lot it doesn't have too. People want a one stop shop, its why supermarkets became so common. it doesnt matter how much we like Fakku or Crunchyroll or supporting offical channels, if we keep having to use other sites for certain things eventually we'll find one that has everything and stay there.
Personally I'll be looking around for other sites which have monster girl and other controversial hentai. I might still visit Fakku occasionally for my vanilla browsing but more likely I'll soon find some site with everything and I'll never think twice about visiting Fakku again.
And while this content removal may not have been permanant, unfortunately Jacob has been extremely vague on the topic and so the damage is done, faced with uncertainty many people have chosen to leave and likely wont return.
Appologies if this is a duplicate thread, but as this is my first and likely last post on here I don't really care if its a duplicate.
Goodbye and Goodluck

06/2015: Removal of some specific unlicensed publishers and controversial content

Jacob isn't removing incest and monstergirl, etc. from what he'll publish; those are just the first things that are being removed from the site. Jacob explicitly said in the ANN interview he'd be publishing many different genres including loli.

I was planning on remaining a lurker and only made an account to access this “Controversial Material” that I could not without an account. But with its removal, let’s go out with a bang.
In all honesty, I find this to be ludicrous, especially when dealing with a tag like “Monster Girls” or “tentacles.” I mean god-forbid a hentai site, that gets (What I hazard a guess to be) about 99.9% of its material from Japan (with the running joke being tentacles making things weird), removes tentacle content.
I am not a smart person by nature, but I do believe that calling this removal of Controversial Material a stranglehold on some types of freedoms of expression for the arts because it might be “offensive.” But is this not the reason of tags in the first place? To warn people that “Hey, this Hentai Manga you are about to view might †˜offend’ you because it contains monster girls or incest.” Tags were created to tell viewers what a title might contain and warn them in advance so that they might not get their feelings hurt by incest or offended by monster girls. If that’s the case then might as well pull shows like “SAO” or the upcoming adaptation for “Monster Musume” for being offensive according to these standards set up by Fakku. (FYI, SAO has the incestuous hints and Monster Musume is a Monster Girl harem.)
And I must agree with Tribey when they stated that “People want a one stop shop, its why supermarkets became so common. it doesnt matter how much we like Fakku or Crunchyroll or supporting offical channels, if we keep having to use other sites for certain things eventually we'll find one that has everything and stay there.” I have been lurking on Fakku for a number of years and have enjoyed the new additions to the tag lineups, but if it is going to be removed for absurd reasons, then I might as well find a new site. Yeah, I am the type that likes the regular, straight up vanilla combos, but I love looking at what some artists do with their works, either by making it strange or pushing the limits of the imagination with their renditions of monster girls. But removing the content from the site feels like it is strangling the creative voice of the artist for not staying within the normal boundaries of society. If artists did that, then art would be boring. Also it seems like a bit of a slap to those translators that worked hard on their translations only to find out it was removed from a site they had put it up on solely because it was “offensive.”
On a side note @623, That’s great that you were able to comment something from the forums, but I get the feeling that many users don’t stalk them religiously to find out what is going on. If such a big change was going to happen, why did Jacob not make an announcement that could have been posted to the front page, rather than having to look through the forums for answers?

Jacob said he'll be publishing what the magazines published, regardless of what category or tags it woudl include. So yes, you are correct, there will be 'controversial content' in the future. But the future of the content of Fakku is dependent entirely upon the content of the magazines being published in Japan that are partnered up with Fakku.
If they don't publish Monster Girl, or Loli, or Incest, or Tentacles or NTR (which I totally agree with), then Fakku won't publish anything with those tags either.
With the previous model of Fakku, the site did not rely on official channels which would publish things with some amount of political correctness in mind. The official channels that Fakku will work with will not create or publish such a wide diversity of content that Fakku used to get. So Fakku might be getting more content published on the site each month (which I doubt), but the diversity of the content will be very limited.
In all frankness, I suspect that the content on Fakku, a year from now, will be something like 90% vanilla, non-controversial content, with the remaining 10% split up amongst the various controversial tags.

If such a big change was going to happen, why did Jacob not make an announcement that could have been posted to the front page, rather than having to look through the forums for answers?Only problem is a lot of this has been posted on the front page forums, and various social media outlets. I know a lot of people say the term "just google it", but honestly it is still pretty easy to find the information you need if you do a quick look. Now if it was only a 3-4 people, even 5 at max making threads and didn't know any better that is one thing, but people are deliberately making over 10+ threads daily all in various locations of the site stating the same thing.
I know when I say to someone this thread has been made already I get the response, "so what I wanted to make my own thread to get answers!" People sort of have this entitled feeling going on. It's one thing to want answers and to know what's going on, but to throw out things like "I'm going to boycott this site" or "we deserve an answer", I don't know why anything has to be done in a certain way. I think things should be a bit more planned and clear cut myself, but that's just my way I don't disagree with how Jake handles his business just a difference in opinion much like we all have atm. People also seem to just want to blame issues on others, maybe there are reasons things aren't more clear atm so just give it time. It's not like the site is shut down and there are no uploads. And who is to say all of the content is going into a waste basket? Everyone just assumes that getting rid of the material means it will be dumped in a trash heap.
Anyways it's as 623 said, fakku plans on having a nice variety of content for people to view and own, won't just be all vanilla. Other then that, people really are over-speculating everything to death, I know people want answers and I'm excited for more info too, but I don't feel entitled to know this information by any given date or time. In the meantime I just go to other H sites on the side like I've always done, I love fakku a lot but I like a variety of sites to get my H fix properly lol. Really been into western hentai, would reccomend Sunstone and Rock Cocks to anyone that likes such things too.

You are probably right, but this shouldnt have been an announcement in the forums. not everybody uses those. with such a large and sudden content removal, an announcement should have been on the front page of the site proper in some way. nearly everybody goes to the front page first so the chances people would have been surprised by the changes drops significantly i'd think. we may have known changes were coming, but we didnt know when, or exactly how. and being told about them AFTER a major change that disservices lots of users is not a good way to have done it.

I think if this was handled in the best way possible this would have been the outcome. People are not happy that free content will be taken down and paid content is going to be the thing. There will probably be a mix of both free and paid, but even when all of this started to happen initially there was a lot of hostility. Even when people do understand how things have come to this point they either don't believe it or don't care and want to express their anger.
I do agree with you though, definitely could have been handled a lot better, but it is what it is and things will get better at some point. I go with the saying any publicity is good publicity and even though people are upset at least they are talking and I think people are curious to see what comes of all of this even if they are not on board.
In the end I just hope people do enjoy what does come from all of this and I have hope for the future of fakku. I know not everyone is or will be able to afford things such as the books, but being fortunate enough to purchase them I really did like what I got for my buck. I also think what is to come with all of this will be interesting and will do well, just a gut feeling really nothing more.

Given that he mentioned needing to remove the unlicensed content because a number of publishers refused to work with him otherwise, I think it's safe to say he'll get more publishers than Wani working with him in the future.
With some rare exceptions, anything published as a tankoubon had its individual chapters published in a magazine before. Take a look through the tankoubons on e.g. Sadpanda to see how much variety there is.
There's a fair number of magazines that specialize in various kinds of controversial content, like Comic Unreal or Comic Mate. It's very likely Fakku will end up publishing at least some of those. And even Wani has a fair amount of that stuff. Just consider that NTR² will be brought over.

Oh, I'm certain Fakku will get a little bit of everything, the issue is the time frame of doing so. They have to delete all of their current content before even interesting the other publishers. How long will it take them to replace the lost content is the major issue.
Let's use figurative numbers; let's for example, say there are currently 1,000,000 uploads on Fakku right now, both illegal and legitimate. Now, let's be generous and say that only 75% of this is pirated/not-official. That means 750,000 articles must be deleted before they can go legitimate.
In the meantime, sure, there are still 250,000 articles, but that's 250,000 articles divvied up amongst a wide range of categories. Of course, every article has multiple tags, so there's lots of crossover, but the people who, say, want to read NTR are going to have a significantly smaller pool to draw from than those who like vanilla.
Especially going forward in the future. As it stands, Fakku has a, mostly, "safe" lineup of publishers, so there won't be a lot of 'controversial' content published, at least in the immediate future. At a rate of 40-60 uploads a month, how long will it take them to replenish the lost content?
Keep in mind, I'm being seriously generous here. I'd imagine the numbers are closer to probably 90% or even higher of the content on Fakku being pirated as I doubt most of the stuff before Fakku started uploading was actually done so by the authors.
So using a hypothetical 90%, out of the 1,000,000 million articles (theoretically) on Fakku, only a mere 100,000 articles will remain to be chosen from.
I asked Jacob to reveal his numbers earlier in this thread (I believe it was this thread). The reason is because I'm not sure if he's crunched the number himself, or if he has, so he could be brutally honest with the community about how much content will actually be left after The Purge.
If Fakkue is forced to delete the vast majority of it's content, it doesn't really matter what it's plans are, the community will move elsewhere. They are, essentially, wiping the slate clean, starting over completely from scratch and hoping the community won't move to another site based on future plans, hopes and promises.
If the content isn't there, than neither will the community.
I want to see the numbers. I want Jacob to face reality. I want to know the actual, or even estimated, percentages of how much content will be lost, and how much will be remain. I want to know how long, given their best estimates (best estimates as we know it will take longer because nothing ever works out perfectly) it will take them to replenish their lost content.
If the loss of content is too high, the community will move on. If the time frame of replacing content is too long, the community will move on. He's already going to lose a significant number of users simply due to the pay-wall, but how many more will he lose because of the missing content and time frame?
This decision of his could, very likely, result in the death of Fakku and his hopes for the site will be destroyed because of it. I am, of course, being extremely pessimistic about this, because I, for one, think it's better to plan for the worst and hope for the best. Because if the best doesn't come, at least you're prepared.

I don't know about the lurkers, but i know i seen plenty of incest, monster girls and i few loli in the both of the anthologies over the 20 years i read hentai. Will the amount satisfy someone who only reads those type.... maybe not but that the nature of anthologies. From Yen plus to weekly shonen jump i only wanted two or three stories to read, but i still read everything else... even fairy tale and one piece which was meh at best. If it only get you a few yanks of your penis in the basement of your mothers house or dorm what-have you.
The internet is free(the vastness not the cost of it). Type in anything and you find it. Can't afford? Steal. Everything is online an eventually. I can get fakku books three day after it released. I rather read physical books. The magazine chapter will be ripped if they're locked online. I think jacob will make them free after a certain time... not sure.
You pay for the internet. You buy more steam games and real games. Starbucks daily. God know whatever other stuff , but the thought of an monthly or multiple other different combo of subs at the price of a double mocha shit coffee milk or a sandwich from crapra(panera) breaks the bank? Chose what more important to you can stop whining. ALL of this shit is free somewhere else. Just google something for Lucifer's sake.
Me this is just another monthly payment to a vice i chose to pay. No one is forcing you to come here. It not like Jacob control the interwebs. He not jewish.

These changes are necesary, pissing off the fanbase (and losing a part of it) is possibly a risk that Jacob is taking, but I think that in the long term it's for the greater good.
Besides, if he's planning to make a deal with other publishers (who have a much bigger variety in works than Wani Magazine) then he will also need to expand the site's horizons and cater to people who always saw Fakku as an "vanilla and casual oriented" hentai site compared to other sites that have much more variety. There are several magazines and anthologies (and therefore stories) that remain unstranslated and censored, as well as people who want them translated and uncensored, but said people don't even visit Fakku. There will always be a public.
That's probably why Jacob is "starting from the scratch" as you said. Luckily he's already a well-known figure to at least have people supporting him.
I'm really curious with all this, I want to see how big this can get.
Also, people are panicking too much about this "purge", the content that was free here is already available in other sites, and Fakku only had a relatively small portion of everything that was and is being translated. I'm sure this will be nothing compared to g.e-hentai/exhentai purge that happened last year.

Either their user interface is bad, their search engine/tagging system is bad, their filing system for content is bad, or their servers are bad, or a mixture of the above.
For example, I tried using pururin the other day because, dumb me, I thought, "It can't be too bad making a switch from Fakku? Can it?"
Trying to read one doujin was an issue in frustration. It seems every 4th page or so, the server would slow down to a crawl and take forever to load the next page. Forever as in, ~7 minutes at the longest wait time. I know it had something to do with their servers because everything else was working fine. I could load up and flip through Fakku no problem, watch YouTube, even stream some Twitch feed (I was testing if my connection was carpping out, but it wasn't). Then, often enough, it would give me something like a 404 error and I'd have to hit backspace and then try and load the page again.
Let me tell you, having to stop and deal with that crap while fapping is not conducive of enjoyable session of sinning against the Catholic church.

To me, pissing off the fanbase and losing a portion of it to make these changes may backfire as word spreads around about what is going on. It could also alienate the translators that work hard to translate and upload onto this site first, they may just pack up and find a different site to devote their time and effort to.
Another problem I see with this is, while Jacob is looking at bringing in new magazines, it could really limit the amount of new content in tags like it was stated by Tels. Some people may come here for the sole purpose of one tag only, and if that tag stagnates, then they will split as well.
For us Westerners, we primarily have been dependent upon the unlicensed content because of how hard it is to get content of any kind (music, manga, h-manga, etc.) outside of Japan. Just about every song I have from a game or a Japanese artist I adore has had to come from YouTube because the digital music shops won’t carry it or Amazon does not sell it. And trying to seek it out in a legitimate way sends me to random sites that just scream bad news. Even if I do find it and am able to purchase it, the cost will be through the roof and (in the case of a game) I will have no idea what is being said.
With H-Manga, it’s the same thing. The only stuff that is allowed through might be the same old “safe” and “non-controversial” material which will result in us getting the same old tags all the time, causing the same pattern and stagnation. (Seriously, read a certain genre enough and you will notice an immediate pattern that will make you seek out something new and different.) At least through the translators, we can enjoy both artwork and story, despite it coming from an unlicensed source. For all we know that could make the artist happy just knowing someone saw their work and is now seeking out more of their amazing art, and quite possibly in a legitimate way. There could also be a limit to the artist pool as well, depending on an Artist’s specialty is, if the magazine deems it not worthy enough to publish or is deemed too strange and bizarre.

I'll say this again, why do people think that the only content that will be published is vanilla only? The is going to be a variety of works published that isn't just limited to vanilla or normal sex. The books that have been published so far are pretty tame, but only because they are some of the best books ever created and sold in Japan by some of the most iconic artists. Yeah they are vanilla, but they are dam good. More content by various artist will be released over time, but it will just take a little time.
They are not just thinking about stopping at books either, their is a wide variety of eroge content out there from artbooks, videogames, VN's, anime, magazines, so this is only the start.

But is the amount of content produced by the publishers Fakku is partnered with, or courting for partnership, able to replace the amount of content lost in an appreciable amount of time?
This is the issue most of the people who claim the content will come fail to grasp. If it takes 4 years for Fakku to replace the lost content, then people will have moved on by then. Especially if the lost content is locked behind a paywall that eventually gets moved to free content, or free with ads of some sort.
It does not matter if Fakku will continue publishing a diverse selection of manga, if the quantity of the selection isn't fast enough to replace what is lost.
No one is worried about vanilla, because vanilla is everywhere. But your monster girls? Loli? Incest? That's a mite more rare. Some of it is rarer than others, but no one has as much content to draw from as vanilla.
So the problem is, that the diversity of future publications will not be completed in enough quantity to satisfy the users of Fakku. Those of the controversial crowd who stick around hoping to get a bone thrown their way every once in awhile will be suffering from a most righteous case of blue balls while doing so. Fakku may eventually bounce back and have a wide selection of work to choose from again, but it's going to take years, at the current estimation of 40-60 per month, to do so.
How many thousands of issues are being lost in this purge? It's probably vastly easier to count the number of licensed manga, than unlicensed.
If you, or anyone else, responds with the claim that those who've lost content can just get it anywhere are missing the point. Think about that. If the point is to make Fakku the leader in hentai industry and it's exposure into the western world, then it will fail as a leader if it's userbase has to go elsewhere to get what they desire.
If a significant percentage of the people have to leave Fakku to get the hentai they want, then the whole point of Fakku is wasted. You cannot lead the industry if you have no one to follow you.

I appreciate the overall civil tone in this discussion, and many good points have been raised, so here are my thoughts on the topic.
It took almost a decade to build up the current library, and that was through the efforts of over hundred scanlation groups. It's obviously going to take a while reach anything near those numbers again, and I think it's fairly unreasonable to expect us to match it any time soon.
We had to double the localization team just to be able to translate these two magazines, and I can assure you that we've been busy these last few months in order to prepare for this new service. I was personally skeptical to starting off with more than one magazine, so being able to have two of them for launch is amazing. The 40-50 stories/month figure is only the start, and that will only increase as we pick up new magazines in the future—which is also how we'll be able to diversify the selection of content.
I believe we tiptoe around it a bit, but the implication from many users seems to be that we should simply not remove unlicensed content, but that's unfortunately not an option. I fully understand the concerns about quantity and variety, but everything has to start somewhere, and I do believe this is a good start.

I've noticed that you keep, kind of, deflecting with this sort of response. The problem is, we don't "know" that we're getting any sort of additional content similar to what is being removed. All we have are vague promises to go on and with all of the current mixed content that we are losing access to via this site, it's seeming more and more like this will not be a financially viable option in the future unless there are established facts made available to the current community to verify that a large portion of this content will be replaced. Without any verification, the community will likely move elsewhere without looking back.
And if they can't make it a financially viable for this site or the publishers that are considering signing on, then they can't even go beyond the manga/magazines that they are considering right now.
This is a huge risk that Jacob is taking with this and, currently, I don't see it paying off without some tremendous luck.
