Could FAKKU commission original H?
0
So I was wondering if Fakku could or would consider comisioning an original hentai work?
I fully admit I have no idea of the cost, but it occurred to me it would be pretty cool to get someone like say Kisaragi Gunma, Kiyoshiro Inoue or Takeda Hiromitsu to make something original for FAKKU. I'm thinking full books worth of content, chapters published for subs as and when they are completed.
To fund the cost upfront you could try something like Kickstarter... Pulling numbers out of my butt, but something like the Project H one for Vaillila Essence by Yamotogawa raised over 100k. As say I've got no idea how much a hentai artist charges per chapter, but I can't imagine they're earning that much per volume???
Obviously someone with more knowledge than me would need to come up with the numbers. But I figure, base reward, a digital copy of the book, $15, increasing however was necessary. Minimum goal would be enough for one book. With stretch goals being to publish more.
The idea would be to ask the artist to create a plot manga that takes place over a full volume and if stretch goals are met, even further. Beyond asking for multi chapter plot, the rest would be down to the mangaka.

I'm sure they could, but I'm not sure it would make much sense to do so. The artist would most likely want their work to be seen in Japan as well, in which case they would also want to work with a Japanese publisher, essentially leading us back to where we are with Fakku and Wani publishing the artist's work simultaneously.

Japanese market could certainly be part of the discussion. Don't see why it would stop something like this from happening. If you can prove there is a huge audience in the west who wants to see it, and pay for it up front I don't see a downside.
Besides it could always be done in tandem with a Japanese publisher. Or possibly licensed to one to generate revenue for FAKKU.
I think something like this might allow FAKKU to target artists it knows are particularly popular and try to encourage an increased output.
It may also encourage some of these Mangaka by giving them a higher pay day. (Possibly)

Although that would nice, I would like them to start small. Like has anyone seen the work Napata did for Komiflo.
If FAKKU! was to commission anything at first I think it would be nice to have an H-Mangaka draw their mascot Momoka.
Then again Momoka is already established, it may make more sense for another lo original mascot to be either paired with Momoka, or momoka represents the site, and they have 1 new mascot for FAKKU! Books, and a new Mascot for FAKKU! Subscription, since they are 2 separate categories.

Technically, there already was Nonoka to be paired with Momoka. We never really saw much of her, but there have even been cosplayers of her.

Nonoka must have been before my time.
Even then having commissioned illustrations on the site, for advertisement purposes will (in my opinion) go a long way.

Agreed, getting some fan favs to do some commissions would be a great first step. Perhaps rather than FAKKU mascots it could be their characters wearing FAKKU clothes or panties etc
Part of the other reason I'd really enjoy FAKKU comisioning its own work is the ability to ask for full length plot Manga. I find one a done a bit dull, which is why I don't tend to subscribe. A quality full length plot book like A Straight Line to Love is far more fun to me and much more re-readable

This would be pretty cool, but doing an entire book seems pretty ambitious. I don't really know the process but as far as I can tell tankoubon are normally created after several chapters appear in magazines and then the artist will revisit those works for the book release. Counting the individual magazine publications it looks like a very long, slow process. Commissioning a whole book would probably happen in parallel with their normal workload which sounds like quite a lot and I don't think the creative process should be rushed for a special project like this.
But of course there are plenty of artists who I'd throw 100 bucks at to do something like this. So if it could happen, I'm definitely down.

While I think your somewhat right about the process. I think if you approached a mangaka and said 280 pages, 10 chapters, one story, they could come up with something, especially those that have done it before.
I'm sure this would be more complicated than I realise. But I think it would be really cool for FAKKU to create something in that way.

We do have a fakku exclusive. XXX Mix.It is a collection of previously released doujinshi as well, though.

I suppose when I suggest this I'm making a couple of assumptions;
1 is that everyone prefers plot books
2 plot books sell better,
3 there is notable difference in sales between artists
Now maybe I'm completely wrong. I try to avoid compilations of one shots unless I love the artist. For me, okay artist no plot won't buy, okay artist + plot will buy.
By comisioning something FAKKU could request a plot book, from the best selling artists.
That's why I specifically mentioned Gunma, very famous artist, already has several plot books. Can't imagine the Kickstarter failing with him as the name.
That said not sure he still does H, haven't seen anything new released by him in years.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy full story compilation manga, and H-manga as much as the next guy, but IF and I mean big IF FAKKU! was to commission something the first thing would probably be a standalone FAKKU! exclusive Doujinshi.
I also feel from an artist's standpoint a 20-30 page Doujinshi would look better and be achievable at a decent pace when compared to a 200-280 page full tankobon, but hey I could so wrong about that just my opinion.

I do take your point. I'd support some single chapter tests, with different artists to see how it could work. Ultimately, selfishly, for me the point would be to end up with more story volumes. Unless I LOVE the art I just can't get in to the situation or characters enough for a single chapter. Also 1 shots feel reprieve to me.

Either way for me the bottom line is.
I wholeheartedly support FAKKU! Exclusive commissions, and regardless of if it's a full story, a doujinshi or even a store exclusive special (like you would get when you buy a book from Toranoana, melonbooks, etc.) I would support that with cash.

I don't think it makes sense for Fakku to do that. What could Fakku ask for that couldn't be done in a non-exclusive deal? Perhaps Momoka or a new mascot but making a 20 pages manga for it? I think it would make more sense to perhaps commission one giant poster (or some other form of branding like a banner) for Fakku, with numerous mangaka taking part in drawing their own interpretations of Momoka or a character for a book that has been published by Fakku. Doing this you have the foundation of Fakku being represented in a way that is easy to present.

^^ Have to say I disagree with the initial thought that there is no point for FAKKU to do this.
While of course it would be great to use the talent of the various H mangaka out there to create banners etc, creating an exclusive work/s under a FAKKU imprint would be fantastic self promotion, minimal risk if it's run through a crowd sourcing site and would allow FAKKU to generate specific content that they know sells.

There are still many good multi-chapter stories never released outside Japan. Not just tankoubon, whole doujinshi series I'd like to read uncensored and translated.
