[Locked] Rollback Promises

Jacob promised that the uploads lost with the roll back would reuploaded by the staff, and that he would donate to the scanlation groups that made new uploads at the time.

When will these two be done? I've noticed that Jacob is going to yet another convention again.

While I actually thought that going as far as donating was a bit excessive, I do think that it's bad practice to make promises in an apology and never follow up on them. It makes the promise seem like a way to cool things down in the short term, until it blows over and everyone forgets.

Honestly I've been against this idea of Jacob and "the crew" going to all of these conventions.

I understand that it can't be all business, and sometimes people just have to have fun. But if they can afford to go to all of these conventions every year I fail to see how some of this money can't be better spent to make Fakku more reliable. Yeah, a server isn't cheap, but neither is going all across the country to dozens of conventions every year.

That may very well just be my practice, but what good is it to go to conventions and spread word of Fakku, when at any given day there is a rather significant chance that Fakku is going to go belly up, and at this point I'm starting to feel like it is rather avoidable but proper actions aren't being taken to secure Fakku's continued use.

Then again, it is easy to say this on the outside looking in, but at the very least things like this need to be addressed so people don't continue to get the wrong idea about the situation, assuming I'm talking out of my ass.

I agree with both of you, but try to look at things from the Staff's perspective. I'd elaborate, but I can only guess what goes through Jacob's mind.

If the promises are unreasonable, that's more the reason why they shouldn't be made. It's been 2 months. At the very least, a little (perhaps 5-10 uploads a day. Maybe 10-20 dollars) could have been done, rather than nothing.

If Fakku is short on cash, Jacob should at least say that he's unable to make the donations, rather than not addressing it for so long.

But again, I do think it hurts one's credibility to make grand promises, and not keep them. Just as it hurts one's credibility to go to conventions before making good on those promises, and making grand claims such as "number one hentai site" at those conventions.

Again I agree with you, I can't really defend Jacob, but if you feel so strongly about this then you should take it up with him personally.

It does seem like priorities are a bit skewed around here, but at the same time that isn't entirely fair to say since no one knows what Jacob's priorities are. Only that some us feel that whatever his priorities are they differ from what we could expect.

Jacob and Mike are the only ones who are going to conventions on a regular basis. Everyone else that goes with them is with Sanshee, which is a separate venture he set up with his friends irl.



If I remember correctly, he started going to conventions on a regular basis with Sanshee, to set up a booth there and sell their products so that they could make a profit. The Fakku panels came after this, something to do in addition to selling items at conventions. The Sanshee costs would be covered by the Sanshee money made at the stall selling the attire that they make, so I imagine a very small amount of Fakku money is used in this whole scheme. However, I am not Jacob's financial adviser, so I don't know the whole story, so it's best to hear it from him.

As for the promises, I'll bring this to his attention when he gets back from Otakon. I believe that he has a break of sorts after this convention, something which he hasn't had much of (Once again, could be wrong).

This seems like something that should have been handled privately wih jake first. it's bad form to air semi personal grievances publicly with out giving a chance to handle it on his own.

don't get me wrong, i think far too many here are glued to jake's nuts, and as such too afeared to call him out on anything. i also think that fact has had a bit of an ego stroking effect, and left him a bit complacent.

This isn't a personal grievance. I consider the promise Jacob made was a promise to all of Fakku, not just uploaders. I believe a public thread is the best place to discuss this then.

Suppose that is true, but at the same time there needs to be more information.

In the case of what I said, if what Matty said was true then that's fine. That's an explanation, but why couldn't we hear that straight from Jacob. Something like that should be mentioned. I may be the only one who's said in public, but I'm not the only questioning where all of this money is coming from for him and Mike to go to these conventions yet seemingly none of it going to keep Fakku running.

I would think I'd want to tell people that instead of allowing them to assume the worse and for things like this to fester.

Bills gotta be paid, guys.

By spreading the word about the site, they got sponsor deals like the new one with Kitty Media. Plus, selling shirts and merch on the side keeps things running. It's their business, and honestly, it's free for all of us.
How much more can one ask for?

Putting the donations aside (I don't see why Fakku won't be able to afford $10's at least, and again, I don't think unreasonable promises should be made in the first place), why haven't there been any (or a noticeable number of) uploads?

I mean, I understand Jacob is busy traveling, but surely a little at a time isn't unreasonable. Why can't the rest of the staff who aren't traveling reupload?

That's a dangerous line to walk.

It does no good to be a complacent member who just takes things for face value regardless of whether a site is a paid service or not, just as much as it does no good to complain without end.

I'd say Fakku is definitely on the side of complacency from both the staff and the members. Some might think those of us who actually question decisions made by Jacob, or heaven forbid have an opinion that doesn't involve stroking ego, as members who are just whining for more. However, I think those don't question some things don't really care about the community.

It's a fine line you have to walk. Being on either side of it, to me, means a person doesn't really care.

Hmm. I can see what you mean, honestly, I do.

But summers are busy con times, no? And since the Fakku name/brand are more in demand now than previously, the staff still may not have adjusted to the pressure. That said, yes, shit needs to get done, but in my opinion it's being handled in a decently humanly-possible way.

Let's drop the donations. I understand people sometimes misspeak, and I don't really want to sound like a loan shark here.

But I mean, are all the staff members traveling? I only thought it was Jacob and Mike. I'm sure there's a couple of admins that only have contact through the internet. What if Jacob gave moderators or really long time community members temporary uploading privileges?

It's been 2 months, and I'm just giving a reminder. That's all. These promises don't need to be fulfilled ASAP, but it's been a while.

Simple really, not all the moderators on the forums upload to the site. For instance, Gambler, Tegumi, Tsujoi, Kenjugs and myself don't have uploader rights to the site as we never upload anything. Whereas other staff members who do upload the odd item, such as Waar or TheDarkStarAlchemist, do have the ability to do so.
I do agree with your idea of giving all staff upload rights though, so that should a situation such as this occur, we don't have to wait for someone with the rights to fix it.

Is there a list of sorts off all the uploaded items lost during the rollback? If there is it would be greatly appreciated in the re-uploading of content.

I was using the word staff synonymously with admin. I understand that mods don't usually get privileges (hence my idea).

And IDK. Some people asked Jacob that and the reply was "PM him". I don't understand why that list couldn't just be posted if it's available.

This also does bring up the subject of the roll back. Why was it so sudden? If it was a necessary step, surely Jacob could have announced it... But that's going a bit off topic.

So. Any word on what's going to happen?

I honestly just don't know what needs to be re-uploaded. The first things I did was re-upload every release that I could remember that had been lost. Anything after that I am unaware of. So just post the names and whatnot here and one of us will upload it. Or if you want you can even upload them on your own.

And like I said in the other topic I did donate to several translation groups, and I went to translate to your team and you mentioned donating to some Nashrakh commission thing if I recall? And the reason I have yet to do that is because I haven't had the time to look into it further, I didn't realize it would become an issue.

Can you post a list of what was lost? It'll be really helpful.

It does seem very suspicious that you didn't reupload any of our releases and haven't donated to us.
